Game 5 Tue. April 28, Dallas @ San Antonio, 9:30 pm EDT TNT (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/preview?gid=2009042824)

SAN ANTONIO (AP)—Spurs coach Gregg Popovich’s usual ballcap at practice is stitched with four Larry O’Brien championship trophies, like jewels on some crown of NBA titles.

But the way things are headed for the San Antonio Spurs, there’s no need to rush to make room for a fifth.

Tim Duncan has never lost a first-round playoff series, and only once since the Spurs won their first championship in 1999 has San Antonio not advanced in the postseason. But down 3-1 to the Dallas Mavericks, the third-seeded Spurs must win at home Tuesday night in Game 5 or their season is done.

“We haven’t been in that position very often,” Popovich said Monday. “It is what it is. You just play the games and deal with it.”

It was a typical, non-alarmist Popovich response. But it’s been anything but a typical postseason for the Spurs, who are saddled with trying to become just the ninth team in NBA history to storm back from a 3-1 deficit and win a series.

This is where it ends for San Antonio. Parker is gassed, Duncan isn't healthy, and the Mavs are playing with a sense of urgency.

I picked the upset before the series started, 1 more win Dallas don't let me down!

I think San Antonio will play like the desperate team they are, and win this one, because Dallas won't come out with the killer instinct.

Yes it is.

3 v 6.

Say what you want about the Manu injury, but Dallas has had their share as well. Josh Howard needs surgery at the end of the season but is waiting until playoffs are over. You have an elite PG and PF, Mason is a 3 point stud, Finley is clutch, and you have one of the best defenses in the NBA.

You guys have complete eliminated Dirk and Terry... randoms like JJ Barea, Antoine Wright, Erick Dampier, and Brandon Bass are picking apart your team.

HAD one of the best defenses in the game

duncan is suffering from a knee problem
Say what i want about the manu injury??im sure you know that now having manu is kinda like the mavericks not having terry(and STILL manu is better)

true finely is clutch but, im sure if u watch the games you can see that he is a horrible defender and a very streaky shooter.
The reason i dont call it an upset is because as most people can tell you, dallas was the superior team going into this series.Due to the manu injuries and not havinga set rotation.

If the Spurs can take a dominate lead early it could go back to Dallas.

If Dallas comes out on fire, we could be looking at a new Mavs because history makes me think they lose this one. The Mavs have been able to keep some fire going lately though.

The Mavericks basically dont have Terry this series. They have dominated it despite Terry scoring only 12 PPG on 34% shooting.

Its not Dirk or Terry that has been killing the Spurs. Its been the Mavs as a team with contributions from Bass, Barea, Wright and Howard stepping it up in the playoffs.

While I give this Dallas team a lot of credit, I can't see them winning 3 games in a row. As stated before, I don't think this team has the killer instinct, and may be happy with just trying to close it out at home. If Dallas was smart, tonight would be the one you must win, you don't want SA to think there is any shot of going back home again.

Dallas has a second chance at a game where they should not come out lightly and with a satisfied mentality. They need to play as if they were the team down 3-1 and fighting to survive. Yes, of course, the Spurs are going to come out desperate, but the fact is Dallas is the better team this series and need to straight up prove it tonight. A win would do wonders for the Mavs.
1. Have time to focus on the Denver Nuggets earlier rather than spending another 3 days on the Spurs.
2. Would be the first low seed to win a Game 5 after going up 3-1.
3. Just end the Spurs season NOW and no more waiting, give no hope.

I'd like to see the Spurs win to make this series go a little longer but I don't think it will happen. Mavs win tonight and close out the series.

3-1, not impossible to come back from, but not probable either. I hope the Spurs come out desperate, since thats what the need to be, and make sure Dallas does not win the series on their home floor.

Typical pathetic Mavs, can't close out a quarter. They had a chance there to end the Spurs, and they choked. Call me crazy, but book this now... Spurs in 7. This Mavs team doesn't have the nuts to close out a series.

I don't know about that. I do believe the reason you guys lost the series was due to injuries, next year you guys have to clean house and bring in some fresher legs.

I guess I should have clarified more. I don't feel bad for TD, his 4 rings, 3 finals MVP's, 2 MVP's and status as the GOAT PF will console him.

What I meant was the fashion in which this series went. Quite frankly it was a sad effort from TD. He was not the great Tim Duncan we've seen for the past decade, and it was kind of a sad display to see someone so good look so pedestrian.

Dallas was a bad matchup for us anyway, because we have no players that match up with Dirk Nowitzki.

Next season the absolute priority is to get some offensive firepower to keep our big three healthy towards the postseason without our offense suffering as much.
