Game 3 - Thu. April 23, L.A. Lakers @ Utah,10:30 p.m., TNT (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/preview?gid=2009042326)

SALT LAKE CITY (AP)—Still weary after yet another loss in Los Angeles, the Utah Jazz knew Wednesday was last call for optimism.

The first-round playoff series against the Lakers returns to Utah on Thursday, a game which will either get the Jazz back in it or put the put the defending Western Conference champions on the verge of sweeping the best-of-7 series.

“The series is not over. They just did what they were supposed to do—win at home,” Utah point guard Deron Williams said. “Now we’ve got to do what we’re supposed to do.”

If the Jazz lose Game 3 on Thursday, anything they say about the series not being over yet will have a hollow ring. Through two games, the Lakers have shown depth well beyond reigning MVP Kobe Bryant while taking a 2-0 lead, pulling out to huge leads in both games and then dispatching the Jazz every time they rallied to make it close.

I think Lakers win this game and then the Jazz take game 4. Utah was really dismantled in LA. Their defense was exposed. They will need to feed off their crowd if they want to prevent the 4 game sweep. Also, Deron needs to get 30 & 10.

I think Utah takes this one, then drops the two after that to the Lakers. Or loses this, wins game 4, and then loses back in L.A. I just don't see them beating L.A. twice in a row or winning at Staples. If they do win both these home games, though, it will be due primarily to tough, physical defense at the foundation of their play.

jimbobjarree

your in Utah, so your scrubs wont be scoring from the outside as much, and our scrubs will be scoring more, I think we take it, I'm confident..though in the game I think I'll be ******** it all through the second half if its close.

I really need the Lakers to come out focused tonight. If we take this game, then we put a real stranglehold on this series, if we lose, then we're in danger of going back to LA tied at two.

We need to play focused, smart defense for the whole 48 minutes. It should be a really physical game, so we need to be ready for a fight tonight.

I just read on Yahoo sports that Okur is out again for game 3! I hope this isn't true but it probably is. I think we can beat L.A. at home without him, but it would help a whole hell of a lot if we had him. He's one of our top 3 players, damn. Sloan should play Fesenko. He is 7 foot and big around the basket with his body. We don't need him to score, but he can get offensive rebounds and slam it in. Damn we need Okur, D-Will can't beat L.A. himself.

well Kobe usually carries your team on offense in Utah so its possible. I am more optomistic that we will be up 3 or 4 with a Deron Williams shake and bake step back to ice the game with a few seconds left..sounds familiar doesnt it

that it does. I just think that Kobe will be in a zone. Utah fans still hate fish, and Kobe takes personally. So I feel like he's bound for something big tonight.

jimbobjarree
04-23-2009, 06:42 PM
yeah but your other players always seem to struggle in Utah. When your at home (in
general) all your role players and bench plays better as they feed off the crowd, thats what the Jazz bench does, it rarely plays on the road, and I think that will give us a big boost tonight for the victory. Kobe will shoulder your scoring load, he'll get 30/40 tonight.

I just hope you dont get off to a quick big lead

This would be a 1-1 series. if we had Memo in game 2. :sad2:

How do you know that? Everything plays out completely different with Memo there. From tip to finish. Heck, the Lakers could have blew them out even more. It isn't as simple as adding a player and their PPG production and saying there would have been a W. I was at the game and the Lakers were very focused. I think even with a healthy Memo, they were going out on the floor to take the W in any fashion.

well think about it this way, our D couldnt have gotten any worse, and even if you dont add on the 15 odd points he would have got in the game, if we had him buzzed in the game 3 down with the ball I'm sure we he would have helped to put us in a better position to win that game

they did it last year in the playoffs so it is entirely possible and shows they can win big games there

Sure, he may have gotten 15 points, but that changes the entire dynamic. The Lakers would think differently and play differently. With him out there, they would know they would have to elevate their games higher. I mean, the Lakers DID beat a healthy Utah squad last year and the Lakers did not have Bynum or Ariza. The Lakers play well enough to win, whoever is out there.

I just hate that Utah fans are complaining and acting as if Mehmet Okur is the reason they are going to lose when a Laker team (without two starters) defeated a healthy Utah squad in a playoff series and the Lakers did not lose at home. Lets not act like Utah is supposed to win this series with Okur. It's just not logical.

jimbobjarree
04-23-2009, 08:06 PM
well duh the Lakers team is playing better and is more talented than us, but I think we're allowed to express our opinions on Memo. He makes us a better team and we ran you close, having him in the team wouldnt have hurt us defensively as we were already bad, and would have helped us a hell of a lot more than Collins offensively.

And even if we didnt play him the whole game and JUST buzzed him in when we were 3 down with the ball, the outcome could have been alot different, and I say could have been not would have been. We are a better team with Okur than with Collins, I think thats blindingly obvious, and we ran you close..by that logic we maybe would probably have stood a better chance with Okur, not saying we would definatly have won.

jeez, sorry for believing in and supporting my team, so hate it all you want, it wont stop until its all over for us.

well they played about 8 good minutes in the 3rd quarter, but other than that, pretty pathetic effort.

Kobe's offense and Pau's defense killed us, both were atrocious.

so every game I've been hearing that this Kobe Bryant fellow can take over when his team needs him. If he sees the Lakers are in danger he'll step up and save the day. Where was he today?

at least we dont get swept and we prolong our season!

He came up with quite a few great passes down the stretch as well as a much needed bucket. That last shot was a product of a bad pass.

What's wrong with Bynum and Pau? They are 7footers for crying out loud, and yet they were out rebound by an undersized Boozer. Bynum with only 2, not good at all. Good thing Lamar got 14 off the bench.

I expect the Lakers to take game 4. They will be playing with a vengeance. But we can never count the Jazz off. D-Will!

I missed the game, but from reading about it, it just seems as though we got out played. We need Bynum to play more than seven minutes, and we need him to be a factor when he's out there.

It seems we just couldn't hit a shot, whether that was Utah's defense or our offense I don't know, but congrats to them anyway. We need to come out focused and take control of the series in game four....

Ah. Thanks.

But still, wtf kind of foul trouble prevents you from playing at least 20 minutes, aside from flat out fouling out? Dude has 5, you can still play him in the final minutes. Without having watched the game, I think I'd still have to put this one on Jackson.
