I hate to say it, I don't want to be a Player guy, but I rep CP3 where ever i go. I also rep the Hornets though. But if CP left the Hornets I'd still be a Hornets fan.

Its' mostly team for me. Lived in Detroit till I was 12, die hard Piston fan. lived in L.A. for almost 8 years, so I wouldnt call my self a "die hard" laker fan, but im a fan of them. I like the Nuggets cause I will root for Chauncey Billups wherever he goes. so the 3 teams i like are

1. Pistons ( die hard fan for as long as I remember, grew up there )
2. Lakers ( fan for about 7 years Want them to do well, but when they played Detroit in the finals I routed for Detroit, like them cause its where I live
3. Denver ( I've liked them for about 6 mounths cause of Chauncey, want them to make it but then lose to the lakers in the WCF.)

players will come and go, but teams will always be there. haha excpet for when a team leaves like lakers long time ago, hornets, and thunder more recently. but you know what i mean.

i like following players too, but my loyalties are with the team. it's even better when the player i like to follow ends up on the team i follow!

i think it's better to follow the team, but i suggest everyone should follow other players from other teams too because there's so much great talent out there that sometimes they go unnoticed because they're not on the popular teams that people follow.

Players. I'm from Iowa, where there isn't really a set team to root for, so I follow a players more than teams.

Players I like a lot: DRose, Josh Smith, Kyle Korver, Deron Williams, Gerald Wallace, Jamaal Tinsley (:sigh:) or any alumni from Arizona, Iowa State, or University of Iowa

This thread would be amazing if it came with a lie detector test.

First, I like the thread-idea and I was thinking about opening a smiliar one ...

I'm Dirk Nowitzki-Fan. I do cheer for the Mavs to win, but ... I would leave them if Dirk does. I hope he won't, but without Dirk I wouldn't care much about the Mavs anymore, I think. Sounds a bit, how do you say (?), "bandwagon"-like, but sadly is the way I feel. It's not that I choose the winning team all year again or want to hop from franchise to franchise. I think you have to have something that ties you to a franchise, for whatever reason. For the most, it's their hometown-team they follow and cheer for ...

I'm from Germany and still live here, so the only thing that ties me to anything are my countrymen in the NBA. With Dirk being the one I admire the most. I wasn't that Detlef Schrempf die-hard Fan ... but still cheered for him. I think it's pretty hard, to follow a team if you can't visit a game and live far away and only can watch a bit of NBA somewhere on NBA.com or whereever.

For example: I'm die-hard fan of my hometown's soccer team, I have season tickets and all that stuff. I could never imagine being fan of any other club in soccer ever, in my life.

I know here are some guys that are very different in that point then me. People from all over europe or elsewhere are longtime fans and stayed with their teams in good and bad times, so please remember: This is just the way I (!) feel. I'm not saying the others here should feel so, too ! ;)

I'm a fan of players, not a team. I was a big Michael Jordan fan and hence used to be a fan of the Bulls. Since 1996, I became a fan of Kobe Bryant and hence a Lakers fan. Back in 1998, I remember rooting for both the Bulls and Lakers (because of Jordan and Bryant). However, once the Jazz made the Finals, I didn't have to worry about who to root for.

mkool65
04-23-2009, 02:27 PM
Absolutely team. I still love Chauncey even though he is no longer with the Pistons but it is because of what he brought to this franchise, Ben Wallace to a lesser extent because he left on bad terms. I will always be a Pistons fan first and a player second.

JLynn943
04-23-2009, 03:23 PM
First and foremost I am a Sacramento Kings fan. They take precedent over every other team and player in basketball for me. However, I am also an Allen Iverson fan and will root for any team he is on, and I usually end up at least kind of liking that team even after he leaves. For example, I've always liked the 76ers.

But with Sacramento not in the playoffs, I'm rooting for the Hawks since they have Bibby and for the Bulls since they have Brad Miller and Salmons.

So team first, but it should be ok to like players too

Team. I was about ready to give up on Kobe two seasons ago... I'm glad he stayed, as he's my favorite player Laker or not, but had he gone, I would never root for him to win the title unless the Lakers were already out of contention.

NBA is a player-driven league and I didn't grow up with any particular allegiances with regard to basketball. I have some now, but I sit down to watch the NBA for 20-25 players that I enjoy watching. If I want blind loyalty I'll watch my Florida Gators finish middle of the pack in the SEC.

Well I'm not one of those type of HEAT fans. I would gladly want Wades points to be lessen if it produced more wins for us. And Its not just Heat Fans that do that. A lot of fans of Great players will do that. But I can honestly say I never heard a Hawk fan say OH Johnson droped 30, 10,and 8 or whatever.
