Well I am not a fan of his, but I like that he is 7 ft and can shot from anywhere on the court. He fadeaway leg out shot is nice too. What helped him grow? Hmm his Wheaties, but as a player Nellie gave him confidence, and the rest is history.

I'm a big Dirk fan...just so rare to see a 7 footer play like a guard. Dirk is known for hos perimeter game, but his ability to shoot off the dribble and put the ball on the floor is severly underrated. His baseline drives from his post-ups is also a thing of beauty and you can really tell how much of a quickness edge he has over other big men.

I always thought his turn around fade away was a strange sight to see. The slow, catapult-like release and the huge arc on his shot. It's just as signature to Dirk as the fingeroll was to Iceman, the skyhook to Kareem or the dreamsake to Olajuwon. This gives me an idea for a thread by the way ;P

I don't like threads like this. But, it's about Dirk so I'll give it a try.

Well, Dirk:

He's the best, greatest, sympathic and most talented Basketball-Player my country ever had. Great and funny guy. Fantastic role model and personality. Someone you have no problem with, that your kids want to be like him. Always polite and fun with his fans. His games is unique. He carries our Nationalteam for 10 years now, with a success we never dreamed of. He deserves way more respect, credit and appreciation than he gets, here in Germany. One of our greatest and most successfull athletes ever.

His Basketball is special, even the NBA has never seen someone playing like him before. He shoots the three and post-up plays, he is a franchise-player a has a huge repertoire of moves etc. etc. You all know him ... My favourite move is his unique fade-away jumpshot off the post-up play.

Everyone knows he can shoot, but he also has a nice little post game. He can take over games when needed and makes big shots for his teams. I enjoy watching him play.

It is "choked." And yeah-he choked in the Miami series, just like all the other damn Mavs. But he's still actually one of my favorite players, but he needs to be a #2 guy, not #1.

*This has to be one of the most misspelled words in this forum. WHY??

I love Dirk. I'll take him on my team anyday. Some of my favorite moments are when he plays on Tnt and makes a huge shot and Marv Albert or whoever says "Right between the eyes!". It always cracks me up.

My favorite player bar none. Not the best on defense but on offense hes incredible. He and Cuban have been the only true constants for the Maverick franchise the last ten years, and they just continue to win 50 games a year. Yeah they should have a title to show for it but they don't for what ever reason. People like to say he and the Mavs choked in the finals, maybe they did but what impresses me more is the team he got to the finals. It was Dirk and role players(Harris good now, Howard good now, Terry 6th man of the year now but not then).

Dirk is one of my favorite player to watch. I just love how unique his game is, for his height. Amuses me, watching him drive by guards.

Except when he is playing the Spurs of course..

I'm a big Dirk fan, but his devotion is...unsettling. I think its great to be a fan, but making numerous posts or threads about that one player is obsessive. Restraining order obsessive.
(Oops-should clarify-I'm responding to theimortalone's last post.)

One of my favorite players in the NBA I love to emulate his game as a so called big man in high school (im only 6"2). His little turn around fadeaway is money and when he hits which he always does the man is unstoppable. IMO one of actually the more underrated players in the league.

My favorite player in any sport. Doesnt want anything other than to win and never has any enemies in the locker room. Everyone loves him in Dallas and he has absolutely no ego at all. Genuinely a great guy who lives basketball. Spends the entire NBA season playing basketball, and then goes to Germany over the summer and either works on his game or plays for the German National Team.

He is better at defense than anyone will give him credit for. His man to man defense has improved leaps and bounds and he has developed a great strip move. Based on the fact that he's white,German and doesnt block alot of shots he will never get the credit he deserves for his defense though.

Mark Cuban needs to make moves to get him a big time partner soon because the man deserves some help and the only consistent help he gets is from Jason Terry. If the guy could get a star next to him that would take some offensive pressure off of him he would be even better but he has always had to be the main guy surrounded by average players and the occasional semi all star. Its frustrating.

First off, if being a choker includes avg 27 pts and 11 rebs in the Miami series, then you can include Dirk.

But Dirk is just amazing. I've never seen some one shoot fade aways off their off foot like Dirk and consistantly drain them. He is one of those shooters where a pump fake will always work from anywhere on the floor, because he can knock it down from the rafters(kinda like ray allen)

My favorite Dirk moment had to be in the 2006 WCF in game 7 against SA. He played great all game, and when it mattered he delivered. With little to no time left and the Mavs down 3, Dirk drives down the lane, takes the foul from Ginobili and makes the bucket and FT. Thats clutch.

Dirk has done alot for the game of basketball he broke barriers between europe and North America.
He has never won a NBA championship but he has one a championship with Germany and he did win a NBA MVP which is a trait many fantastic players have still not achieved.
Dirk is my favorte player for alot of reasons, but the main reason is what alot of you said hes so different. His shot is fantastic I mean forget the fact that hes 7 feet I hate how people say that:
hes a good shooter for his size
The guy won a three point championship hes a good shooter al laround a fantastic athlete.
I think takes alot of warranted criticism because of his different play style but he wouldnt be Dirk if he played any differently.

I like how hes turned the typical image of a specialist, into a franchise player and MVP. Because of all the his followers for his diversity, it opens doors for young kids who want to be like him and believe they can be as good someday.

His jumpshot is impossible to block. Great mobility for his size. At his size and play, hed dominate the 60s and 70s without a doubt!
