Game 2 - Mon. April 20, Dallas @ San Antonio, 9:30 p.m., TNT (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/preview?gid=2009042024)

SAN ANTONIO (AP)—Dirk Nowitzki sat in a chair courtside, reflecting on the Dallas Mavericks first playoff road win in three years.

For a once “terrible” road team, in the words of Nowitzki, they looked perfectly relaxed in San Antonio, a day after beating the Spurs in the series opener.

“The advantage we just gained, we don’t want to give it right back,” Nowitzki said. “We’ve seen it happen before.”

Not since the 2006 NBA finals had the Mavs led in a playoff series. But they’ve now got a 1-0 edge after going to Josh Howard early, relying on their bench late and wearing down rival San Antonio in a 105-97 victory on Saturday night.

About the only thing wrong for San Antonio on Sunday was that Jason Kidd didn’t practice because of a stomach illness.

I gotta think San Antonio comes back and takes this one. I'd be kinda shocked if they lost 2 in a row at home to open the series.

SA has got to take this one, otherwise it is over.

agreed.

My god, watching the spurs w/o Manu, the only way Spurs can still play like the Spurs is if Duncan or Parker, either one, is on the court at all time. One of them has to be on the court, or else we cant score.

AllTheWay

I am rooting for Timmy D though, he could cement his status as best PF ever if he can will the Spurs to a series victory without Manu.

superkegger
04-20-2009, 01:07 AM
I don't think Duncan needs to do that in order to cement his status as the best PF of all time. He's got that already. Only thing he's improving upon now is where he stands in the top 12-13 players of all time.

There's still quite a few doubters.

Yeah, well, doubters can doubt, but they're just blind if they don't see the greatness of Tim Duncan for what it is. His 3 finals MVP's and 4 rings cement his status as the greatest PF ever.

harlequin018
04-20-2009, 01:39 AM
Tim Duncan is already the greatest PF to have ever played. If there's any doubt, you don't watch enough basketball.

And this all coming from a Mavericks fan.

You got to think Pop is a little upset Manu went against the team's request and played in the Olympics.

The Spurs play best when they face adversity so I imagine they will answer the call. However, if they lose expect them to begin a rebuilding process. They will be one of the teams with tons of cap space in 2010. I can't see them bringing in any HUGE names, but they will take the solid players that are going under the radar. Manu is also a FA in 2010 and I can see them letting him walk or trading him next year. He pretty much sacrificed his season to play for his country, commendable I guess, but bad for the team that signs his checks.

NYMetros
04-20-2009, 10:48 PM
San Antonio is dominating right now. I thought that was the way the Celtics were going to play tonight, too. Tony Parker is destroying anyone who attempts to guard him. It really is pretty funny to watch. Dirk, Jason Terry, and Josh Howard need to pick it up on offense if they want to have any outside chance of winning this game in the 4th quarter.

The only thing I'm a little disappointed to see: Tim Duncan isn't being very aggressive. Maybe he is just getting old? It's not like the Spurs really even need him right now though.

Brooke
04-20-2009, 10:49 PM
Wow every time the Mavs seem to get closer Parker makes a shot

NYMetros

Great finish to the half for the Mavs. They can cut it to 10 if Terry makes all three FT's, then keep chopping into that in the 3rd quarter. Exactly what they needed; big momentum swinger and confidence builder.

Wilson
04-20-2009, 10:52 PM
Wow, huge opportunity for them to close the gap to 10 now...

thedfactor
04-20-2009, 10:59 PM
Mavs did their job ending the half by closing the deficit to 11. It covers up what was a really poor performance. They will need to carry that momentum right out of the gate in the second half and get it back into single digits. Worst thing would be it returning to a 20 point game.

Young2Kinsler

Against a team as well coached and with as many veterans as San Antonio has, it's hard to beat this team two times in a row in their own building. Just be happy with the split and take care of home the rest of this series (of course, that's much easier said than done, and someone needs to stop TP from scoring 40).

nah, I think it'll still go 7. they'll split the next two as well, and then they'll both win at home in games 5 and 6, and then game 7 will be a tossup. Mavs get beat badly here, but a loss is still only a loss. it's not like this one counts for two. they've got plenty of time to right the ship.

I give this team what they deserve, and that is nothing. They have done nothing but underachieve for the last 4 years. Well I guess the 6 seed was over achieving this season, but other than that, they deserve nothing what but they get, and that's loss after loss. I hope this ends in 5, I'm ready for the lottery.. wait we decided getting *** ****ed in the first round is worth losing 5 spots in the draft.

Fantastic game by Parker. 38 points, 16-22, 8 assists, 2 steals in only 32 minutes. Crazy good.

this was quite ugly for the mavs. pretty pathetic effort. They better rebound in game 3.

That kind of effort will end this series. Spurs in 5

Spurs will win game 3, then mavs win game 4, spurs win 5, mavs win 6, then Spurs win the Game 7 FInale.
