NEW YORK -- The NBA finished the 2008-09 regular season with the third highest total attendance in league history, 21,549,238, an increase of 153,662 over the 2007-08 regular season.



This year's average attendance of 17,520 also ranks third all-time. NBA fans showed their support as, on average, arenas were filled to more than 91% capacity.
The NBA Playoffs tip off on Saturday, April 18, with 16 teams competing for a trip to The 2009 NBA Finals and the chance to win the Larry O'Brien championship trophy.

i wonder how this happened because a good chunk of the stadiums saw all time lows in attendence this year

Cleveland, LA, Boston must of drawn enough attendence to balance it out

I know New Orleans had its highest sellout numbers this year as long with attendance. And people were saying this sport was going down hill.

I think the economy is on the downturn but the quality of the league is a LOT better. The stars of the league (LeBron/Paul/Wade/Kobe/Dwight) are amazing and the parity in the west makes things exciting year round.
