April 10th, 2009--

Los Angeles Angels Pitcher Nick Adenhart, 22 died yesterday, April 9th, 2009, during surgery after he was involved in a hit-and-run accident in Fullerton, just minutes from Angels stadium. A man in a minivan ran a red light and struck Adenhart's Mitsubishi Sedan killing two others with Adenhart sadly following during surgery. This came hours after he pitched 6 scoreless innings against Oakland. Adenhart was considered LA's top prospect, and one of the top prospects in the game. He was a fabulous ballplayer, and an even better person. The driver of the van, Andrew Thomas Gallo, 22 attempted to flee the scene, leaving behind an injured passenger in his vehicle.
Preliminary results indicated Gallo's blood-alcohol level was "substantially over the legal limit" of .08 percent, police Lt. Kevin Hamilton said.

Gallo was interviewed by investigators before he was booked in jail Thursday on three counts of murder, three counts of vehicular manslaughter, felony hit-and-run and felony driving under the influence of alcohol, Hamilton said. Gallo was being held without bail.

All of Baseball mourns the loss of this great kid who encountered an untimely end.

Thoughts and prayers go out to the Adenhart family, the Los Angeles Angels Organization, and all of baseball.

The Angels postponed their game.
