This is an interesting article I was reading on ESPN. It just talks about how there aren't any cinderella stories this year and the major teams from the major conferences are dominating.

I kinda agree that it is better when a team like George Mason or Davidson take down these top seeds but I am sure the NCAA is happy, bigger teams means bigger fanbases which in turn means more money.

I don't think it's lost it's charm. The teams playing better basketball happen to be the big time schools, I'm ok with that.

i dont think it has lost anything at all..
oh no some of the crappy teams arent winning. :ohno:
good thing IMO.

we do have a 12 seed in the sweet 16, but that doesnt count b/c it is arizona?
there also were many other upsets.
that being said, i have no problem at all with the best teams advancing farther in the tourney.

These things go in cycles. Mid-majors will have their little runs every couple years.
The teams that deserve to advance, advance. This year it just happens to be all the big boys are the ones advancing.

So one year without a Cinderella, and they're already talking about the tournament losing its charm?

The Tournament is still entertaining to watch. I bombed my picks this year, so I haven't tuned in as much as I have in the past, but that's my own fault, lol.

Honestly, I think the top teams going far this year is good for the tournament.

There may not have been any big upsets in the first weekend... but this upcoming weekend has a lot of fantastic matchups of big-time schools. I'm looking forward to every game.

Let me play devil's advocate.....if there are always upsets or cinderella's....wouldn't that water down the true meaning of "upset"?

I think we need a few years like this to really appreciate a true upset again.

3 years from now if a 10-13 seed made a deep run....it would be refreshing.

If you come to expect upsets....they no longer are really upsets.

I think everyone was just spoiled by George Mason back in 2006, and now EVERYONE expects a mid-major to make a huge run every year (including myself; I had VCU in the Final Four for God's sake). Teams like that come once in a blue moon, and it may be a while before we ever see anything like that again.

In fact, the Final Four run of George Mason might have just woken up the big 6 conference programs and they have stepped up.

This has been one of the most entertaining tournaments I have watched in a while. There have been so many games that have come down to the final seconds, even the 1 and 2 seeds early had some problems. This also sets up for better basketball in the next couple of rounds.

did ESPN watch either Pittsburgh game? DId they watch American almost win? Did they watch the Clev. St. Game? I mean, gimme a break, there have been some GREAT games thus far.

That being said, the first weekend of the tourney is always the best anyway.

I think this is a great post. Because of what happened with Davidson, George Mason and even Vermont a few years ago we now think one of these "huge" upsets or cinderella stories will come every year. With the Vermont upset of Syracuse I can remember be completely surprised that it actually happened. Now this past year I was looking for these upsets thinking they they would happen, not nearly as exciting.

Also, some praise has to be given to the selection committee. All of the top 12 seeds are still in the tournament, and even the questionable pick of Arizona has turned out to be spot-on. They have done a phenominal job this year.
