Andrew Bynum might not return to the Los Angeles Lakers before the NBA playoffs begin in April, coach Phil Jackson said Thursday.

Jackson said Bynum is probably a month away from returning from a torn MCL in his right knee. The Lakers end their regular season on April 14, with the playoffs starting soon afterward.

"I would say he's still like a month away from being a player," Jackson said, according to Los Angeles-area media reports. "And if he had to do that in the postseason, then he's going to have to do it. That's just part of it. It's going to change how he comes back obviously."

Bynum was hurt on Jan. 31 in a game against the Memphis Grizzlies and was expected to return in eight to 12 weeks. He has been riding a stationary bike and working out on a treadmill, but that alone won't get him into game shape, Jackson indicated.

"The best case is that he plays the first part of April," Jackson said. "On the pace he's been going at this point, it's really hard to see him in two weeks all of a sudden being able to do that."

Bynum was averaging 14 points and 8.2 rebounds per game when he was injured.

I doubt it, he his saying one month away just incase if something happens. Phil always does this, Bynum said himself he gurantees to be back this season, who knows best then the player himself?

Bynum says he'll definately be back, but it'll probably be midway through April just like PJ said. I think if he gets enough practice time on the court by the beginning of April, he'll see some playing time before playoffs

Bynum would know best, but how many players would say anything to be able to come back from injury to play for the league's best team and be an integral part in winning a championship.

he might be a month away, but this is PJ with his mind trick again
He wants the team to realize that they cant just wait for him to come.
Lakers have been struggling lately

Bynum can come off the bench and he can be a part of the championship. That'll be better than having someone named Powell or Mbenga right?

I have been feeling the same way lately. It's as if yesterday the Lakers were playing portland in the season opener and they hype of Bynum vs. Oden was getting out of control. Now we're a month away from the playoffs. Crazy

he says "a month before becoming a player"

This probably means that it'll be a month before Bynum is actually able to contribute.
Bynum may be available in the next 2 or 3 weeks.
