I'd say:

1. Pujols
2. Berkman
3. Teixeira
4. Youkilis
5. A. Gonzalez

I think Howard's overrated. His main asset is that he hits home runs in a home run hitter's park. He's not all that great at making contact, not a top first basemen when it comes to getting on base and he's not good at playing defense.

I'm putting Fielder ahead of Gonzalez cause I think he'll bounce back to stats more similar to 2007 then 2008.

I refuse to believe he's a 1B. I will continue to think of him as a DH.

C'mon, man. You can't be serious.

Youk, Davis (?????) and Votto over Texiera, Gonzalez, and Cabrera? Tex and A-Gon are both excellent defensively and easily beat those guys offensively, as well.

Tex will be good but i have Votto breaking out big time.... maybe i'd replace Davis with Tex i was tied up between the two....i think Davis will be a MONSTER.

Yes man, i'm serious. Last time i checked, i was entitled to my own opinion.

Like i said, i have Votto breaking out big time. I'd replace Davis with Tex, its just that i think Davis is going to be a freaking monster this year. Him and Hamilton are going to be scary. Cabrera isn't great on D, and like someone else pointed out, hes best suitable as a DH.
If i was going on offense only then i'd go with
Pujols
Berkman
Texiera
Cabrera
Gonzalez/Fielder

Happy?

But this thread isn't about whether or not a player will be good in the future. We're talking about now - The top 5 best 1B's. I don't think Votto can crack that list..YET. I don't think Davis can crack that list..YET.

I HAVE them as breaking out THIS season, especially Votto. Davis will be a monster THIS year.

So you have Tex ahead of Davis and Votto on the only offense list and he is better than both of them defensivly.....

But that's all opinion on the future, not what we've already seen. We've already seen what Pujols, Berkman, Teixeira, Morneau, Gonzalez, and Cabrera can do. Any combo of those guys would do. Davis and Votto are good potentials, and some day (as soon as this year) they could be studs. But until they've proven that they're consistently among the best 1B's in baseball, how can they be considered one of the "Top 1B's"?

In any event, even if they do it after this year, I still can't say I'd put them on the list. It takes longevity to be among the best.

Fielder? People forget that Prince had a 156 OPS+ just in 2007. And btw you still have to put players like Howard and Delgado over Loney/Lee.

I'm impressed with the conscensus of the 1-2-3. Just about everyone agrees, in order.
