ATLANTA Atlanta Hawks forward Marvin Williams has decided not to have surgery on his ailing back, opting for a more conservative treatment program.

Williams is back in Atlanta after meeting with a specialist in Durham, N.C. The fourth-year player, averaging 14.0 points and 6.4 rebounds, has missed two straight games with lower back pain.

The Hawks said Thursday Williams is out indefinitely but will try to resolve his problem with rest and treatment. Atlanta is undefeated without Williams in the lineup, winning all five games hes missed this season.

5 games isnt enough source data to make the undefeated part worth talking about

Interesting, though not really indicative of anything. If they're going to make any kind of run in the playoffs, which I think they have the talent too, just a matter of the defense being there, they'll need him Marvin.

The Hawks without Marvin in the POs is a first round exit. They may have won all 5 games they played without him so far but come postseason play you can't come in without one of your starters and most stable and consistent players. This will hurt them in the long run even if it doesn't yet show.

Hope he can come back for them. You hate to see teams get injuries right before the play-offs.
