What made the Mavs go after Kidd last year instead of Carter?

Didn't the Mavs need a SG more so than a PG?

They wanted Dirk to play more off the pick and roll again...like he did with Nash early in his career. A lack of playmaker has cause Dirk to play more on the block and handle the ball more...that's where he got exposed by the Warriors when Don Nelson sent a help defender when Dirk put the ball on the floor.

Dirk has proven to be a do everything guy and be relatively successful at it...but as he enters the latter stage of his career having a playmaker like Kidd is good for reinventing himself in catching and shooting. He is still an underrated post player, but it takes less it's toll on Dirks health if he plays outside-in instead of inside-out.

^It would be nice if Dampier could score since he's inside, near the basket, but oh well...unrealistic expectations. Pretty good answer there, Jay.

Because the Nets were trading Kidd, not Carter.

Plus the whole Kidd-was-a-Mav thing.

Because the perceived problem in Dallas was two things.

1. They lacked players who could lead and proven vets.

2. They lacked playmaking and relied on Dirk to score on his own too much.

They thought both of those problems would be solved with Kidd.

because Kidd was the one that wanted to go there... After the Pau and Shaq trade the Mavs were scared, and shipped out for kidd, since kidd wanted to be there anyways

Because Kidd wanted to be out of Jersey because Thorn has done nothing to improve the team. Well during the post-Finals Nets after KMart departed he only managed to sign the following:

1. Marc Jackson (the big man Jackson)
2. Cliff Robinson
3. Mikki Moore
4. Vince Carter (even if the Nets already have Richard Jefferson. still signed VC instead of an elite BIG).
5. Often injured at that time Mutombo
6. Often injured at that time Mourning

Yeah, but Carter was the better piece for them.

Cuban is in love with Kidd. Gives him head after each game.

Because of all the hype surrounding CP3 last year and that every team needs a PG if they want to compete. BS! It looked like a bad move right from the start. Devin Harris was obviously getting better but they may have needed to offer Harris anyway or Howard if Carter was really on the block then.

I dont think the any deal other than the Harris for Kidd deal would have made sense unless it was Howard for Carter. Why would the Nets want to add Harris when they already have Kidd and vice versa.

Don't be bitter and insult Cuban cuz the Mavs came back and whooped your *** in 2005.

The Mavs could have easily traded Terry, Stackhouse, Diop and some picks for Carter.

.....or the Nets could have gotten Harris for Kidd.

You're forgetting that the Nets had a say in this one, too.
