View Full Version : Rockets interested in dealing McGrady for Baron Davis

There could be a new guard in town for the Rockets -- and it's not Vince Carter. Houston has moved into negotiations with the Clippers for point guard Baron Davis, a source close to Davis told SportingNews.com on Wednesday. "It would be best for everyone if Baron moved on," the source said.

The Rockets, still smarting from the loss of shooting guard Tracy McGrady, who will miss the rest of the season with knee surgery, apparently have not given up on the 2008-09 season. The team has played well without McGrady, going 13-6 (they were 20-15 with him), but needs another scoring presence if it is to rescue this season.

Bringing on Davis would have some risk. He is in the first year of a five-year contract that will pay him $65 million, and he was supposed to be a building block for the Clippers. But Davis and Clippers coach Mike Dunleavy have not meshed well, and Davis is averaging 15.5 points, his lowest total in nine years. The team is just 13-41, coming off a humbling 140-100 loss to the Suns.

If the Clippers can get out of Davis' contract now, they will seize the opportunity, even if it means taking back the oft-injured McGrady in return.

TMACs contract runs out in 2010. They didnt want to be committed to Davis for another 4 years. Plus, its not like the clips are making a playoff push

Why did the Clips sign Baron to such a ridiculous deal in the first place?

I know TMAC's contract exspires in 2010, but a lot of other players do that can actually play. Even though Barons contract is horrendous

This would be a good deal for both teams, IMO. the clips get rid of Bdiddys contract that they dont want to be comitted too and the rockets get a player to help them out for their playoff push to replace Tmacs void in the lineup.

i dont think that the contracts would match up... would it be something like camby and davis for mcgrady and brooks? or head?

Okay but who else is going to take Bdiddys contract?? The rockets would because they need some1 else to help artest and yao.

Why would the clippers do it? t-pain is not only out for the season but is having microfracture surgery

Clippers do it for financial reasons, but they would prolly want Artest instead of T-Mac.

You can, Portland just got Michael Ruffin for Ike Diogu to clear cap space for the offseason and Ruffin's been injured all season.

why would the clippers do that now. I don't want an injured T-mac

But is there any reason not to do it?

The only reason I see that happening is because of contract issues. Aside from that even if baron davis is injury prone too he has more in the tank than T-mac. The clippers would be in even worse shape

I'll take it for Houston...this could have a major upside(even though there is a risk)

the clippers would do this to save over 20 mill and they get tmac whose done which means the rest of the season is over for them so can you say number one pick? so next season if everyone is back would look good for the clippers.
