View Full Version : McGrady staying put

Houston Rockets owner Leslie Alexander said Tuesday that oft-injured star Tracy McGrady won't be dealt before Thursday's trade deadline.

McGrady sat out Tuesday's game against New Jersey as he seeks input from doctors on the best course of treatment for his troublesome left knee. He's missed 18 games this season with the injury, the aftermath of offseason surgery. He sat out another game with a sprained ankle.

Alexander said "there will probably be some news" about McGrady in "a couple of days," but it won't be an announcement that the seven-time All-Star has been traded.

"I don't think we're going to part ways with Tracy," Alexander said. "We acquired a great superstar and everybody wants us to trade the great superstar. You don't get superstars that often."

The Rockets acquired McGrady from Orlando in June 2004. He's due to make over $23 million next season, the last year of his contract.

"We're not looking to run away from Tracy," Alexander said. "I always thought he was injured and he had problems. But he's a great player when he's healthy, and a great competitor."

Alexander also said he wants to keep All-Star center Yao Ming for his entire career. Yao's contract is due to expire after the 2010-11 season.

"When you have great players, we want to keep them, guys who work as hard as he does," Alexander said. "He's a model NBA player. We want to keep him for the rest of his career."

Alexander also announced a partnership with Uni-President China Holdings, a Chinese distribution company. The company will team with Alexander's foundation to build educational facilities for schools in China.

Personally, I think it's time for the Rockets to ship McGrady. They've given him a long run to get them somewhere but he's failed.

Bad move. If they could get Vince Carter or Iverson for him then they should trade him.

^^ I agree. They won't get anywhere with TMac.

And I'd rather trade TMac than Ron.

I like Tracy McGrady the player but hate Tracy McGrady the player that's always injured. Well, don't hate him but hate that he's always injured.

or this could be all theatrics. Nets stated before that they're not interested in Tmac because they dont' want to "sell themselves short." and out of nowhere, alexander counters by saying tmac's "too valuable and always steps up in the playoffs" trying to raise Tmac's stock. so you know...this could all be mind games...two salesman trying to sell to each other...

I guess they're waiting until next season to trade him as his contract will be expiring... plus if he plays any better that will sweeten the deal.

vince seems to have more left in the tank than T-mac right now. But I guess its about the contracts

i dont think rocks should trade for VC..he may be playing well, but he is 32, and he does have 4 years left on the contract..

if they could get anyone that actaully plays basketball, it would be an upgrade at this point

I'm just hoping that T-Mac is healthy for 09-10 season... I want him to stay put and finish his career as a rocket.

Well he's out for the season so he's really staying put now!
