I was at Stadium Grille the other night and I was talking with a buddy of mine about who had the best of whatever certain pitch, my list was the following:

Best Changeup: Cole Hamels
Best Curveball: Clayton Kershaw
Best Slider: Brad Lidge
Best Other: Brandon Webb (split-finger)

So take those four categories and fill them out respectively.

i think the best curveball was barry zito when he was his "Cy" self in oakland. or even the adam wainwright curve ball that caught beltran looking in 2006. id also say slider wise. how can anything compete with randy johnson on that front. and yes rivera's cutter is insane.

I can see Lidge with the best Slider.

Another name is Chein Ming Wang with the best sinker.

Halladays curveball is almost mystical. I don't know how a man can throw such a hook and aim it as well as he does towards the inside and outer parts of the plate.

So Halladay-Curveball
Johan Santana-change up
Zumaya-fastball (pre injuries) id like to see someone hit a 104 mph fastball

Ervin Santana is my dark horse for the slider, I was watching clips of him yesterday and when he's on you might as well drop your bat and head for the dugout.

Sinker is a tie between Webb/Wang/Lowe

Hasn't Halladay been the best ground ball inducing pitcher in baseball for the past 3 - 5 years?

I'm not a huge Baseball fan, but I'm sure that's because of his sinker or slider..One of the two.

Merely above average? Have you ever watched him throw. He has the best sinker in the game especially when he's on. That thing is 95mph at times and drop 6 inches.

I have no idea how this thread could go with some of these choices, a couple of them are obvious.

Best Changeup: Trevor Hoffman (Best changeup of all time)
Best Curveball: Tim Lincecum (If I am not mistaken his curveball rated a perfect 80 on the scout's scale)
Best Slider: Francisco Liriano (His slider is so good, it cost him a season)

The only thing about Lincecum, is he sometimes tends to throw it through the break, for instance when it clocks in at 88. When he's on it's near unhittable.

Dwight Gooden has the best curve-ball I ever saw.

Halladay and Lincecum have the best now (its not the break it's the ability to throw it where you want to), Rivera has the best Fast-Ball (Cutter is just a type of 2-seam fastball). Four-Seamer is probably Verlander and Joba (Zumaya when healthy). Slider and Sinker are tough, Carmona has a great sinker but I'd like to see more so I will say Webb. Liriano's Slider was impressive as are Marmol's and Joba's but I will say Felix Hernandez. Hamels has the best change-up (because of his fastball I think it's better than Santana).

I'm not a huge Baseball fan, but I'm sure that's because of his sinker or slider..One of the two.

It's his cutter mainly but his two seamer is responsible for a lot of the ground balls. A few years back he threw his cutter too much and claimed it hurt his arm. Since then he's worked on it and changed the grip I think and now it's better than ever. Anyways.

Best Change: Johan
Best Curve: Kershaw/Sheets
Best Other: Mo (Cutter)
Best Fastball: Rich Harden
Best Fastball in a year or two: Brandon League

The thing is downright dirty. I've never seen a fastball move like his does. in 2006 it was looking like he was getting ready to ride that pitch to a great career but injuries sidetracked him. It started to look good again in 2008 so I have hopes that it's coming this season or next. Once he has full control of that beast he will be so ridiculously dominant it's not even funny.

his fastball should not even be called a fast-ball....it's speed (94-100+) and ridiculous movement puts that pitch in a different class.

i love watching him throw....i find his 2-seam movement to be the most devastating...but the cutting movement is also great.

if he can stay healthy he could be the new Mariano Rivera....and i know that is a big comparison, but they both have unhittable, brilliant moving fastballs and League should be closing soon....i would much rather have Bj as a LHSU, then our closer.

I hope he's fixed all his arm issues and can get back up to 100 mph this year. He was at 96/97 by the end of last year so I can see him making it back. Imagine if he develops a good curveball to compliment his disgusting fastball *drool*.

As for now BJ is our closer. I'm standing by him until Brandon League becomes the unhittable pitcher he's destined to be.
