And don't worry, Chris Wilcox can throw down too.

The Hornets have reportedly dealt Tyson Chandler to the Thunder for Chris Wilcox, Joe Smith and the rights to Devon Hardin, the 50th pick of the 2008 Draft.
Once Chandler is ready to play (he's missed 12 straight games with a sprained ankle), he would take over as the starting center in Oklahoma City, where his limited scoring average could take a slight hit without alley-oops to catch from Chris Paul. Meanwhile, New Orleans acquires a pair of expiring contracts, and Chris Wilcox -- who could take over as the Hornets' starting center -- gets a clear boost in value.

Not bad...

I think it's a good move for both teams. Although it won't be as pretty and perfect as CP3, Westbrook will get a hang for his new center. New Orleans will get flexibility, and decide what to do with the money they saved.

im getting tired of people saying the Thunder are the worst, first of all, the kings, wizards, and clippers record wise. According to the power rankings, they are 21st, ahead of 9 other teams. with a good pick up in this years draft they will be like portland last year, just outside the playoffs, while the suns/mavs are heading out.

Poor Chandler, you get traded to a team that is gearing up to be one of the best in the West pretty soon, you have a great fan base and you make over 10M per year to play a game. Boo hoo.....you guys are crazy if you'd feel sorry for him.

Anyways, say they trade their 1sts to get Blake Griffin (or luck into the 1st pick)...

Westbrook/Green/Durant/Griffin/Chandler

I would bet money that team makes the playoffs next year.

I like this move for the sonics. They don't need a scoring center. They have durant, green, and westbrook to score. They needed a defensive presence and a rebounder because Swift just aint that good. I actually think next year with all their young talent a year older they might be able to compete for the eighth seed.

They should keep Green and draft James Harden. He is a better play maker than Russell and would make them one of the best defensive teams in the league. Russell is already on of the best defenders at PG. Harden is a good defender and Tyson Chandler is one of the best defensive centers. Sam Presti knows what he is doing.

As a Hornets fan. I kinda like this move. Tru we are giving up one of the core that got us into the playoffs last season, but during this season, Chandler was on a decline and has been significantly injured this season. It sometimes a pain to watch him play during this season.

Plus Hilton is starting to come along and Wilcox may provide a scoring option up front. Only bad side is the defensive end on the lowpost. I hope byronn has something in store for that

I kind of like the move for the Hornets. Chris Wilcox will add a lot to the offensive end over Chandler as he actually has post moves, meaning teams will have to pay should they double team David West with their 2 bigs, since Wilcox can score without a lob. And Joe Smith is a quality back-up big who can give 15-20 min. every night and play smart D and hit medium range jump shots.

IMO, this makes the Hornets better this year (2 warm bodies is better than one on crutches) as well as gaining them cap flexibility to sign someone this summer (Mehmet Okur?)

Lo Porto
02-17-2009, 04:25 PM
Smart trade for both teams. New Orleans needs a good team, but they can't afford to be in the luxury tax. OKC needs to start spending like the big boys anyway so they can win some games and earn some respect.

As for Chandler, I think he is way overrated and overpaid but OKC is the type of team that could use him. He'll be a nice compliment to the scorers there.

Hopefully, New Orleans can make better financial decisions in the future to avoid trading one of their key elements. Regardless, they should still be a dangerous playoff team.

If Tampa Bay makes the World Series and they are still called the Devil Rays, I have no problem calling the Carpetbaggers by their traditional name... the Sonics. Maybe when they do something of value or at least change their colors and name so they aren't confused for a WNBA team.

Hornets won't sign anyone this offseason because they won't have the money. That's why they made this trade to start with. Now they might re-sign Joe Smith or Wilcox, but it won't be for much. New Orleans can't go over the luxury tax. Too small market for that especially in this economy.

I have to disagree. I dont think Wilcox is some sorta allstar but playing next to West and getting the ball baby fed to him from CP3 will help him a lot. Hornets are a MUCH better team than the Thunder. Joe Smith and Wilcox will both be great additions to the hornets. Both are better offensively than Chandler.

This trade might not even make OKC a playoff contender. Remember, Chandler was overpaid to start with. He'll help a team but not make it 20 wins better.

The Hornets did kind of pack it in with this trade. I guess it's better to be good and have a team rather than be great and bankrupt.

excellent deal for the thunder. chandler's a good piece for them at the C position moving forward. they have a solid starting 5 now:
