View Full Version : Sam Cassell traded to Sacramento.

NYKnickFanatic

The Sacramento Kings agreed in principle to a deal with the Boston Celtics on Monday night, a league source told ESPN.com. The Celtics will send Sam Cassell and cash to the Kings for a future second-round pick.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3912402

So the Celtics traded him away to open up a roster spot basically.

Any ideas of what they are looking to do?

Sign a veteran presence to provide, I guess?

The Kings give up virtually nothing to do it as the pick is heavily protected
here's why the kings did it
basically a "I scratch your back you scratch mine" trade

Gotta say, kinda nice from the Celtics perspective.

Get a future 2nd rounder, for a guy who maybe has a year or 2 left?

Good trade.

Why has he lost his mind? If the trade would have just been a 2nd round pick for cash would he still have lost his mind? Lol. No. The kings aren't over the cap by any means so I wouldn't say he has lost his mind!

Yeah, maybe they use the spot to sign Marbury when he gets bought out? But either way...the Kings get cash in the deal so.

Most likely the Kings arent going to keep Cassell.
They are going to waive him. Thats what Im guessing.

But Boston traded him just to open up a roster spot.
So I can see them getting Cassell as an assistant coach or something.
Some crap like that, just to keep him around the team.

That's the first thought that came into my head. Well that, and I also thought about the banner that is going to hang from Arco Arena that says: Sacramento Kings 2009 NBA Champs.

Im REALLY finding it hard too root the kings anymore.

only thing they can do that will make me no longer be a fan of them would be a move to las vegas which is just a matter of time...

im tired of teams doing favors for the Celtics... kings take ET and cash but give up a protected 2nd round pick

Kings most likely will retain that pick and sam cassell will be bought out or waived... so boston basically gave sac town money to take a player? that is bull

league needs to do something about these iffy trades... its getting ridiculous

BTownTeamsRKing
02-17-2009, 09:13 AM
hm it means someone is comming to the Celtics in a bigger trade most likely today. in this trade, im speculating will involve the Celtics giving up one more player than they are receiving.

possibly Davis and Giddens for Joe Smith?

I would say the Celtics have a deal in place and needed to clear a spot to make the deal, but then again they could have just asked Cassell to retire.

what are you talking about? How is it an "iffy" trade. Sac town gets Cash and if they want to keep him, a veteran backup PG. The celtics get a protected 2nd round pick and open up a roster spot.

i dont see anything IFFY here. perfectly legal

i would like joe for this year, but i really hope this isnt why this trade happened. can we keep some young blood? get some vet help some other way.

The Kings dont lose much. I mean the 2nd round pick they traded is "HEAVILY PROTECTED" something bogus, so I doubt they'll be giving that pick up; because after a certain time, the pick goes back to the team

But I don't know. But this trade is HILARIOUS to me, sam aka coach got traded, i bet he didn't see that coming

it's news like this that make me think the league is rigged. why on earth would the kings give up nothing to take on the salary. they still have to pay him the remainder of the $1.262 million contract. the guy doesn't even play. i dont see why the kings would be doing this unless there was some back door arrangement.

Why is every1 having such an issue with this and not understanding it?

Boston sends cash to Sacramento which wipes out Cassel's contract, Sacramento than will proceed to waive Sam.

Than Sam will come back to Boston as a full time coach at some level, and it opens up a spot for a player.

If anything it helps Sacramento in this trade, so I don't understand the "teams need to stop helping Boston" bs. The Celtics could have had him retire, and Sacramento never would have received anything.
