Shaq turned game from 10 point deficit to 11 point lead.

It could've gone to either. They did it just to reunite the Big Fella and Kobe..

I think it was pretty cool.

Both guys played great, it's good to see Shaq go out with an All-Star MVP, he's had a great career and it's most likely his last All-Star game....

I'd give it to shaq because dude had me rollin and its a good way to end his all-star game career

Game turned around for the West once Shaq stepped it up! But with all the Kobe and Shaq reunion hype-fest :) guess they wanted to have that "feel good" ending to sum up this Valentine's Day weekend. BFF's!!

02-16-2009, 12:43 AM
I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH IT!!! AS SHOULD ALL OF YOU!!! This was left up to a FAN vote. Out of the millions of fans who voted, what are the odds that it would end in a Shaq/Kobe tie???

This is just another instance which shows me that the NBA is semi-rigged with dollars coming first and authenticity secondary.

AND CHRIS PAUL SHOULD HAVE BEEN ADDED TOO? Should we have an orgy of MVP'S? Hell, let's throw Pau Gasol in there too since we're all in such a festive mood. And why not add Lebron from the losing end? I think the world deserves MVP. Let's give it to EVERYONE!!! SMILEY FACE SMILES NBA CARES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

is this a CP crybaby thread?
Dude played great, but so did Kobe and Shaq.

and if it isnt a CP crybaby thread, my bad

I get the feeling Shaq won it and said he wanted to share it with Kobe because

a. kobe deserves it
b. hes trying to get back on kobes good side

i would've said paul was deserving, but that missed dunked was just awful

CP3, i don't think anyone thought the West was going to win this game. Not only did they win it, it was a blow out, now every player on either roster can score but 14 assist really changed the game in the West's favor.

The NBA is officially as/more rigged than Wrestling. Seriously, the whole All-Star weekend was just a Press Fest. Krytonate vs. Dwight, Shaq and Kobe back in love, etc. Just let the players have fun, stop forcing pointless storylines.

Kobe played the best and had the best game. Shaq had the best plays and most entertaining game in terms of the dance and his personality in general. Kobe probably deserved it for himself, but with all the circumstances considered, I have absolutely no problem with Shaq getting co-MVP honors. Them reunited and playing great together was really great and brought back great memories.

Any neutral fan would see that Chris Paul was the best player on the floor. But the All-star is about fan appeal, and that's why Shaq and Kobe won. It was a great sentimenal story.

I personally have no problem with Kobe/Shaq winning since the fans are the ones that decide in AS weekend. It's exhibition and a showcase of individual talent formost and competition takes a back seat.

I love how players like Roy, Billups, Gasol, Duncan and Dirk just quietly go along their business and let all the flashy players shoot it out for this meaningless award. They just enjoy being there in the first place and don't allow all the media hubbub screw with their heads.

How was Kobe the MVP? The real question is, "How can Kobe not find other options in AN ALL STAR GAME!?!?!?!" Seriously, the country doesn't want to see you jack up 20+ shots in an all star game, Kobe.

Zefflin
02-16-2009, 12:38 PM
Kobe can take as many shots as he wants in any game. He still shot 50%, had some fun with Shaq, played good D and he and Shaq won the West together. I don't understand how you don't think 27/4/4/4 isn't Co-MVP worthy...

It's an all star game! People don't go to watch Kobe shoot 20+ Times! They watch to see Shaq throw the ball between Howards legs and to watch Howard laugh afterwards. They watch to see Lebron giving an 'into' to next year's dunk contest. They don't, however, watch to see Kobe dribble down the court, keep the ball for 5-6 seconds, then jack up a shot.

It's an all star game and he can't find any other options. THat's Kobe for ya. That's the reason why Kobe puts up 60/3/3 and Lebron will put up 50/12/9. I'll take the latter, thanks.

The Answer3
02-16-2009, 02:03 PM
Shaq and Kobe only got the award because it was a "re-union" and they leave good terms. If you're looking from a casual fan's point of view, then Paul deserved it quite easily. With that said, I'm happy Shaq-Kobe won. One of the greatest duos of all-time.

Kobe played better than Shaq and had more points. Was a total marketing move by the NBA completely. Totally staged.

I'm not complaining...just saying.

socalpkrbkr
02-16-2009, 03:21 PM
I don't like the Co-MVP at all. There's no reason for it to be shared. Heck, if they felt it needed to be shared then they should have made it a three way MVP with Paul getting in on the mix too. Kobe should have had the award to himself IMO.

ink
02-16-2009, 03:26 PM
By staging things like this, the NBA makes the All Star game even less relevant. Big mistake IMO. Everything about the All Star weekend felt hokey and artificial, ESPECIALLY the Shaq-Kobe reunion and co-MVP.

YankeeFan89
02-16-2009, 03:29 PM
I liked the CO MVP thing....just because it was SHAQ and Kobe

JayW_1023
02-16-2009, 03:34 PM
The ASG is nice for people who continously like style over substance...i rather see a intense low scoring grind out playoff contest than a freewheeling exhibition game where no D is played.

That said people make too big of a deal about who should be All Star MVP. It's a pretty meaningless award. When you're chosen at the allstar game it's pretty strange how some players are still occupied with getting the MVP. I much rather see players play free and just be content being chosen in the first place.

Nirvanaskurdt
02-16-2009, 03:35 PM
question... what about stoudamire?.. he had one more point and rebound then shaq i believe?? so yeah kobe alone should have won the mvp or co mvp with cp3 if anyone..

carter15
02-16-2009, 04:02 PM
hows it staging it to have kobe and shaq win co-mvp...its not lik they set the whole game up for them to have very good games..it just so happened that they were 2 of the 3 best players during the game (3rd being cp3) so they decided to give co-mvp to shaq and kobe since they used to play together...blablabla everyone knows the story.

i hate hearing the word staged in the same sentence as a sporting event.

TmacBryant
02-16-2009, 04:39 PM
i think it was lame but w/e.

shaq and granger should have played more i mean they played like 11 min each. even yao played more then 11 min.

I think the allstar game would have been more fun if vince was in it instead of someone like ray allen or paul peirce.

too bad tmac is injured... would have loved to see him alleyoop it to himself for a dunk like he used to.

still a pretty entertaining all star game. i like how they did the dunks at the end. that was pretty funny.

soundjunkies2
02-16-2009, 06:50 PM
apparently it was really a tie

And if that last finishing touch seemed a little too scripted, an NBA public relations official explained that O'Neal won the media voting 5-4, and Bryant received two points for winning the fan vote and O'Neal received one point for finishing second in the fan vote, making the final tally 6-6.
