Greg Oden had an MRI on Saturday that revealed a bone chip in his left knee.
The Portland center banged the left knee against Golden State’s Corey Maggette in the Blazers’ 105-98 loss Thursday and sat out the Rookie Challenge game Friday at NBA All-Star Weekend in Phoenix.

Oden, the 2006 Indianapolis Star Indiana Mr. Basketball out of Lawrence North, missed the 2007-08 NBA season after surgery on his right knee.

After the Rookie Challenge game, Oden said he likely would have played if it were a regular-season game.

Oden is averaging nine points and 7.2 rebounds for the Blazers, who entered the All-Star break in fourth place in the Western Conference.

The No. 1 pick in the 2007 draft is scheduled to return to Portland on Tuesday.

This latest setback comes as 7-foot center was starting to find some rhythm with five double doubles the past 12 games

is there any conceivable reason that after his injury-prone years that go back to his days at Ohio State and still strongly linger to this day, will suddenly just stop, and he will have a healthy career?

I dont think he's going to miss any games, he'll be playing through a bit of pain and that might limit his minutes, but probably not. Absolute worse case scenario is he misses less than 2 weeks.

This really does suck every time he gets healthy and starts playing good ball, some kind of injury happens.

I don't think Durant would be as good as he is right now if the Blazers had drafted him. The fact that his team was so bad last year really gave him a great chance to find his comfort level on the court, getting as many touches as he wants every game.

In Portland last year, they were trying to make the playoffs and I think he progresses a lot slower.

It's not looking good for Greg Oden. You really hate to see this happen to a player.

Man, that must be tough to hear for Oden and the Blazers. So young and yet so injured.
