Are the Celtics be as good if they had not traded for Kevin Garnett ? They would still have Ray, but not KG. I know this sounds crazy, but ignoring the fact that Al Jefferson is lost for the season, he has turned into quite the player http://msn.foxsports.com/nba/playerS...egoryId=209363 (stats) and yes, I know he is the only scorer on the twolves and would have to share in boston. Garnett http://msn.foxsports.com/nba/playerS...tegoryId=71306. (stats)

Salary information:
KG:

$24,751,934
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/player...e?playerId=261
Al Jeff:

$11, 000,000
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/player...?playerId=2389

The Celts traded to Minnesota all of this for KG:

Ryan Gomes, Gerald Green, Al Jefferson, Theo Ratliff, Sebastian Telfair, a 2009 first round draft pick (top three protected) and a return of Minnesota's conditional first round draft pick previously obtained in the Ricky Davis-Wally Szczerbiak trade. Minnesota also receives cash considerations in the deal.

Now I know Gerald Green has a lot of potential, but he has become a journey man, who knows how he would have turned out with some playing time. Ratliff was thrown in there for cap reasons. Telfair would be Rondo's back up and Ryan Gomes would back up Paul Peirce.

Also, the 1st round pick that is supposed to be top three could yield a pretty good player in this year's draft.

My question really is ... do the celtics win last year and how much better or worse off are they without the trade and with Al and a top three first rounder with a line up of:

Pg: Rondo, House/Telfair
Sg: Ray Allen, Tony Allen
Sf: Peirce, Ryan Gomes
Pf: Al Jefferson, Glen Davis
C: Perkins, Powe

Idk what they would have done maybe traded some of the extra players away for picks, cash, or possible better role players.

I'm not suggesting this what should have happened, just seeing what you guys think ...

i think theydd be a very good team still but they wouldnt have won the championship... you cant underestimate the defense garnett broguht over and the confidence he instilled in perkins and rondo

I don't think Al Jefferson would've had the chance to develop as much as he did in Minnesota if he was playing with the Celtics, so no they wouldn't be as good as they are right now

I want to say yes, but KG gave the Celtics their identity. Without him, they wouldn't be praised as much.

What if they didn't trade for Allen and still had Jeff Green who is ballin it up this year? They'd have a pretty darn good future.

i dont think any celtic fan trades in last year's championship for potential... if you have a chance to win it all right now you gotta go all in and go for it...

Celtics would be a good team, but nothing more than that.
Teams that would be better-Orlando, Detroit, Cleveland in the East.

KG brings a lot to the table, he doesn't have to put up big numbers. His passion, his defense hanged the whole culture of the Celtics.

Forget about the stats.

When Al Jefferson, who I think is one of the top low post scorers in the league, can anchor a team's defense let me know please.
