View Full Version : Seattle May Get NEW Team 2013

The Washington State legislature has until December to approve funding for a renovated KeyArena or risk losing a potential $30 million payment from Bennett if the team does not receive a new NBA team by 2013. Commissioner David Stern admitted in October to conversations with Microsoft mogul Steve Ballmer about potential ownership of a new team.

Will Seattle get a new team? Opinions.

I hope they do, they deserve to have one.

Yep, and the history of the Supersonics should be transferred to that team.

seattle isn't exactly sportstown, USA. but they have one of the most passionate fans in the nation (Id say at least Top 5). We're beating on a dead horse, but what Stern allowed wasn't right, I think anyone can agree on that.

It was a part of the agreement that the history would go to the new Seattle team, which would presumably be named the SuperSonics.

I agree. I'm sure they wouldn't mind having Durant back as well...

I hope they do get another team, they didn't deserve to lose the Sonics, whilst Memphis and Los Angeles (Clippers) kept teams that no-one really cares about...

I know nothing about whether it will actually be possible for them to do it or not, but my "yes" vote is a vote for "I sure as hell hope so!"

And they better be named the Supersonics, damn it. I'm still pissed on behalf of the good residents of Seattle that they had their team, with its traditions, just yanked out from under them like that.

You know... the draft, trades, etc. The usual ways. Building up a proper roster would probably take a few seasons, but they'd get there.

 Hopefully. They have billionaires living or raised in seattle and you have to wonder why they can't afford to get a new team or much more would have been easier is to build a new arena. They kicked out and did not take care of the only team who actually gave them a championship. You have to feel bad for their fans.

Wait wouldn't the East have to have a team then to balance out the divisions let alone the conferences?

I hope they get a new team, that'd be cool.

I'm just curious, not sure if its been asked or not yet.. But, now that the Sonics are out of Seattle, what team do yall cheer for?

edit: Doh, I just saw a post on my exact question LOL.

I don't want to have 31 teams in the NBA. Get the Grizzlies,. or the Clippers. PLEASE.

Add a team to each conference, Seattle to the West and maybe Tampa, Kansas City or Baltimore in the east.

That would be awesome too, I really want to visit Pittsburgh...

It would be amazing to have an NBA team so close to home though...

Or Brooklyn, if they can get any funding. That way you don't have to move the Nets.

A team, in this economy, is bound to sell or move. The problem is that no one can afford one. Look at OKC and New Jersey. They are actually financially failing. Not the teams but the ownership. If Shultz still had the team, he would be going bankrupt.

Remodeling Key is stupid. It was a horrible place to be. Everything about it. Parking, the drive, seating, the total size of the building.

Seattle needs a new arena. Then they should get a team. But they are not willing to do what it takes to get either for the near future.

Seattle seems like the most logical place for the next NBA team. It wouldn't be new, but just a resurrection of the Super Sonics. Despite Seattle's advantage, I doubt any new NBA teams will form by 2013 in this economic climate.

I hope they do. and There name should be Outlaws. They'd be my second favorite team if they name was Outlaws.

I voted I don't care about Seattle. I have never done one thing against the people that live there and for the stuff I've heard from them directed at me, they can fly a kite and drive to Portland to watch an NBA game.

This would be similar to the mess that happened when the Cleveland Browns left for Baltimore in the mid-90's.
