From NASCAR.com

This is only going to lock in the top 2 spots.

My prediction for pole is Bobby Labonte. He was in the top 5 in both practices and has RYR power which always help.

*Bill Elliott was fastest in both practices and if he gets pole he'll become the altime pole leader for the 500.

02-08-2009, 02:06 PM
I'd be extremely happy if elliott gets the pole, hes going out late so that will work to his advantage

02-08-2009, 02:16 PM
Ya, but all the non top 35 cars go late. Hopefully a pole could help with sponsors for Wood Brothers since they're running part time this year.

02-08-2009, 02:26 PM
wow the dodges are slow

they are going to have to grind daytona, and then seal it.. the track is way too bumpy for thse cars

02-08-2009, 06:58 PM
Ehh. I love it when it's bumpy like that. I think it could be the setup of the cars because of no testing.

Imo. i think they should make no testing perminanent. It just seems so much better than years past.

02-08-2009, 07:21 PM
its too bumpy for those cars, if they were running the old cars it would be ok

02-09-2009, 10:13 AM
I like the concept of the top 35 rule, but I think 35 is too many cars to be locked in. I think it should be like 30 cars.

02-09-2009, 11:06 AM
Track was really bad in 3 and 4....I think with the crashes in the shootout the 500 will be just crazy too, but,I dont think you will see good hard racing till after 1/2 way. There will be a lot of cautious driving early on..

02-09-2009, 12:38 PM
They're gonna have to do something but it likely won't happen until after the 400 in July. Its possible they would to the worst part before then but it won't be the whole thing. It depends on how things play out in the 500.

I like it without the testing also. It puts things back into the hands of drivers to work with the crews in 2 practices rather than having the additional track time. It also allows teams to form and not be 10 steps behind by missing testing.

I'm delighted Tony Stewart isn't going to need the past champ provisional but I don't think Terry Labonte is worthy of the spot if he doesn't race in over someone like Kvapil or Said that have much better cars but have bad luck on Thursday and miss the race. Only the most recent champion not in the top 35 should get the provisional since he's most likely going to be with the better team and more competetive.

Didn't kvapil lock himself based on being one of the top three non top 35 drivers on the qualifying chart. I thought it was him, stewart, and awesome bill

yes, but since bill and tony locked themselves in on time, Terry Labonte automatically get the Past Champions Provisional.

Bill Elliott
Travis Kvapil
Tony Stewart
Terry Labonte

are all garanteed to be in the field for the 500. So like 17 cars are runnning for the last 4 spots. The top 2 from each race (not including any of the 4 drivers above) will make the race. 35 is just too many to be automatically locked into the field. I think it should be 30

02-09-2009, 04:02 PM
I think that 35 cars is too many, but i think that 30 cars is too little, so there should be a happy medium where drivers get like 5 provisionals and if they're between 30 and 35 and don't make the race on speed, they get in on provisional not on owner points. That to me seems like a fair compromise. Also, I believe the Nationwide Series is the top 30.

And if you look at the field for the second duel, it looks amazing. That will definitley be the better of the duels.

02-11-2009, 06:28 PM
happy to see Hornish towards the top of the practice speeds chart.. doesnt mean much, but it still looks nice!

02-12-2009, 07:35 AM
^^And Aric Almarola. This guy got screwed by Gibbs and i think he's a great river. IF he can put together a string of good races and get a sponsor, look out.

Duel Prediction:
1:Jamie McMaurry Wins, A. Almirola is my sleeper
Scott Riggs and Brad Keslowski make the 500

2:Kevin Harvick Wins, Brian Vickers is my Sleeper
Regan Smith and AJ Almmendinger make the 500

02-12-2009, 10:20 AM
Boris Said will make the race!!

Oh yea, and they just announced Daytona will be resurfaced... in 3 years

02-13-2009, 01:43 PM
After the duels from yesterday Jeff Gordon and Mark Martin are my favorites to take the win on Sunday.

OC Knights #11
02-13-2009, 05:56 PM
john andretti is going to win the race.

02-14-2009, 05:22 PM
Carl Edwards FTW!!

02-14-2009, 08:30 PM
From the duels, I think the favorite to win the race has to be Tony Stewart. I think he is going to win. My dark horses are the DEI cars. I almost picked Truex to win, but i just can't go through with it. Any of the 3 cars have a shot.

02-14-2009, 09:09 PM
Stewart is going to have to start from the back of the field after his crash in practice with his driver/teammate Ryan Newman. If anyone can start from the back of the field and win it is Smoke. He'll definitely have his work cut out for him.

02-14-2009, 10:38 PM
The **** will hit the fan if tony or ryan have tire issues....Tony is already pissed and I love to see him go off on goodyear lol

02-14-2009, 11:15 PM
The Winner of tona is gonna be a hendrick car

02-15-2009, 12:05 AM
Don't think thats gonna happen Nascar and goodyear are attached at the hip

02-15-2009, 02:01 AM
Dale Earnhardt story is on with Bryan Peppers Rest in Peace Dale SR

02-15-2009, 03:24 PM
i just find it funny that its always tony that has problems with the tires.. you dont see jimmie or carl going out and saying crap about tires in an interview after they wreck or just dont run well. tony loves to point fingers and passes blame to other people.

02-15-2009, 04:28 PM
Tony may be the only one who doesn't care about the sponsorship from them... which could be wrong because he is an team owner now

02-15-2009, 06:16 PM
I just hope Junior has a good run. I think this year is his year to make a strong run at the title.

02-15-2009, 07:57 PM
congrats to kenseth, i hate rained shortened races. i feel bad for every1 that got taken out when junior wrecked vickers

02-15-2009, 07:58 PM
what a crock of ****! 7 o'clock on the east coast and thier calling it. way to piss on all your fans helton!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

02-15-2009, 08:12 PM
Congrats to Matt Kenseth and "The Cat in the Hat" Jack Rousch.

02-16-2009, 03:45 AM
Damnit! Damnit! Damnit! Kenseth come on...Rain shortened races for ****s sake just delay it

02-16-2009, 05:55 AM
Way to go Matt. At least a Ford won.

02-16-2009, 11:06 AM
Kudos to the Petty team. Congrats to the Kenseth crew. Man, what a difference a year makes.

02-16-2009, 10:59 PM
I'm so happy for Matt as a fellow Wisconsinite even though I would have rather saw it finish out because people will always put the tag on his win it was only because it was rain shortened. Heading into California, a strength of his, he could very well win the first 2 races of the year after winning none last year.

Which is how it should be for every rained shorted race. Technically he "won" it, but really he just happened to be in first when they decided to call the race. In baseball theres always "Final/6" or "Final/8" to let people know it was rained shorted.

I can understand any other race being called due to weather, but not the Daytona 500! C'mon it's the biggest event in motorsports and they didn't even give it a chance!

Here is the thing, now the bast two big races of nascar, have been sub-par at best. This Daytona 500, and last year's Brickyard 400, the two races that nascar prides itself on have been complete duds. That doesnt look good for the sport

I don't know but having to haul all that equipment across country could have been a factor. Two races back to back across country puts a lot of pressure on the travel crew.

Congrats to Matt my second favorite driver.
