Wanted to make a thread about this because I know a lot of us watch the game but do we play the game as much as we watch it? Just curious to see here who plays the game on a regular basis like me

Many of my friends make fun of me because I'm the one who watches a lot of basketball on TV so when i'm out in the court I act like a coach lol saying things like "GOD DAMNIT guys we gotta close out on the perimeter, were giving up too many open looks!"....."LET ME KNOW WHEN THERE IS A PICK RIGHT OR LEFT ASSWIPE!" i sometimes get too into the game that i become a sort loser and start talking **** to my friends as you can see pointing out what they did wrong and we get into this big argument lol

I play every day. I'm a slasher, my game is similar to Ariza's but I'm not as tall. I try to take it to the basket as much as possible and it's largely successful, either getting a lay up, running jumper, dishing it to an open big man or kicking it out for the 3.

lmao @ the guy who said cp3 floater....I been using that lately too... u get that little space after passing the guy in front of u and just float it over the big guy...this shot is A LOT harder than it looks cp3 makes it look easy..take a lot of practice with timing and perfect touch

I go to my local Gym. I must say Im a good post player, but normaly people dont like to give it to a guy in the post. Also, I seem to be a great passer. My shot isnt great but I can get people open looks. Also, Letely Iv been blocking a **** load of shots. Defense is my specialtly though. I hate giving up easy buckets.

I play almost everyday. Played four years in high school, but my college doesnt have a team. The school across the street (UMBC) made it to the NCAA tournment.

To add onto this topic, has anyone played with someone famous?

One of my best friend's cousin is Michael Beasley, so I have played with him a few times here in Baltimore, and I have also played with Rudy Gay when he went to High School here.

Yup, my and friends and I play all the time when we are all off work. It gets really competitive, and I'm always the one that has to break everything up and make sure no fights happen. I play for fun and exercise, I'm not too competitive, but if I want to be I can. I can't score to save my life, I suck at shooting and offense But I will pound the boards, get steals, block shots and play physical D. KOBE STOPPER HERE.

I just played some of the Buffalo Bills at my YMCA. Whitner and Jon Corto. I covered Corto, we graduated in the same class. He's freakishly strong but I'm way quicker. Then we had the Race Wars game 5 on 5 blacks vs whites. They were beating us at first but like usual they tried to show off too much and got too flashy down the strech and us whities beat them. I hit the clutch 3 to give us an 13 to 11 lead. We won 15-12.

I play every chance I get. Pick up. 3on3 1on1.. 21 untill the cows come home, it is the best game ever and I will play until my knees give. I love to slash, play D, hit the 3 from the deep corners, mid range. I can't dunk so I love crashing my knuckles against the back board when I go up for a layup. Its the next best thing I guess. Great Thread

I play 3-4 times a week at LA Fitness. I'm the white guy who works too hard on D and the glass and rarely gets passed to on offense ha. I do OK when I get the ball though. I have 1 effective dribble move, but once I use it its usually shut down the rest of the game. Decent to good shooter, good in the post. Haven't played organized since I was in 8th grade (played hockey in HS and college), but I love it. I can't run on the treadmill for more than 5 minutes but I could ball for days.

Haha me too. I can usually hold my own against bigger players. It helps having a pretty nice vert I usually end up with a couple blocks a game. Like other people have said the CP3 floater is a must have but I got mine from Luke Ridnour not CP3. I've got some pretty good range from 3. Played soccer when I was younger so I've got that Steve Nash court vision lol.

I played ball on a full athletic scholarship at College of the Holy Cross for 4 years. Same school Tommy Heinsohn and Bob Cousy played ball at. My senior year we were the 15th seed in the NCAA Tournament and we lost to the #2 seed Kentucky Wildcats 72-68. I think about that game all the time. We were so close to beating them. Anyways since I graduated college I don't play as much as I'd like to. I don't have time to play in any rec leagues but, I do play pickup games with my friends at the park in the summer or at the Y in the winter quite a bit.

I can't play anymore. I played about 150 days a year from age 13 - 30.

Coaching is fun. Teaching big kids hook shoots, and drop steps, and shooting bank shots with your off hand, timing for offensive rebounds, boxing out, all that is fun. Teaching them offenses and defenses is also cool. Making it all stick in their heads and execute it as a team, and seeing them come up with new ways to do as you asked them is the best feeling. Watching them beat a team of kids with more physical talent, but less sense of team is even better.

I play street ball about twice a week, I'm pretty versatile but I often find myself playing in the post because everyone wants to be a guard (unless I'm playing with the old school dudes at the community center). I get comparisons to Scola despite standing 6feet tall because I'm crafty with my body the basket and I play big for my height, plus I don't really jump when I shoot (for the record I rarely blocked). My fav move is Ginobili/Wade's 2 step (and I usually finish with the reverse lay-up) which I'm actually pretty good at on the fast break with only 1 man to beat.

we had a kid in high school who always tried out even though he was terrible. And all I remember of him, is he looked like he just got out of a pool with all his clothes on 3 minutes into the start of drills.
I mean, really? How can anyone sweat like that when they are 17? haha

My fav move is Wade's 2 step which I'm actually pretty good at on the fast break with only 1 man to beat.

I'm 6' 8.5", and was 225 lbs.

Intense defender, lots of blocked shots, fine defensive rebounder.

Offense was a little trickier, I had an excellent right handed hook shot even out to about 14 feet, real good inside moves with both hands. and a good left handed jump shot if somebody wasn't in my shirt out to about 17'. Good passer.

Better then basic pick-up players, but got cut trying out for a D1A Varsity team as a freshman. Later got into pick up games with pros by invitation. If I could have executed my offense about twice as fast as I did, I would have been real good. But I couldn't.

why is it being called the CP3 floater?

Jason Kidd is probably the greatest ever at that shot.

Him and Parker perfected it long before Paul was even in college.

Maybe he's saying that because his floater looks like Cp3's (he leans back and puts his knee up when he does it). Tony Parker leans forward with his.

That's too bad, 6'8 is a good height. If I grew that tall I would probably be at least a bench player for a team in the Australian league or somewhere in Europe and I would have been content with that.

I play ball, around 4-5 times a week at my university's rec center.

I'm about 6 feet tall, 175lbs. most recently i played 32 with 4 other dudes (good players as well), and i won all 3 games. I'm a big hustle player, long arms, i play bigger then my height. I can giddy up and make ridiculous layups. lately i have been working on my timing and thanks to that i have blocked guys who are 6'5 rather easily sometimes :)

My shooting can be lights out. The last 5v5 pickup game i played in i got two touches and they were both 3 pointers that i made.

Once i get my own indoor court im going to set up a camera to roll and watch me shoot around lol. Seriously, i like to shoot 3 pointers that are well beyond NBA range.

I play 2-3 times after I lift if I don't feel like doing the stairmaster.

5'7 175lbs about 10 percent body fat, lift like its my job but working alot on stamina and sprints.

I mold my game like Mark Price since he was one of my fav PG's growing up, but can stroke down the three like Kerr who happens to be my fav shooter of all time.

yeah ball is pretty much my life, come to think of it.

**** keeps me sane, and has freaking chiseled my body as my only source of cardio between lifting. But, i do play for hours on end when i am at the gym. I'm not there now cuz its closed :[ ...But yeah when i do go i ususally play for ~2 hours. Its quite a unique situation for me. All my life i have played ball but i was always the overweight kid, so my talent was offset by my physical lack. But once i got into shape during high school and packed on muscle since, My range is crazy, speed is developing, and now same with scoring around the basket. I kinda have that Dirk-N type shot; i surprise people with my scoring off balance.

Oh yeah, The Giant Killer/ Floater. I mix that in with a little hookshot action :). Primo.

But yeah, don't leave me open. lol. Like i said, in 32 the other day, I won all 3 games with 4 other dudes playing. I took what there defense gave me and always sprung out to a lead...One time i hit 27 really quickly, then it took me nearly 15 minutes to get the last 5 points. They were scrappy games, well fought, many loose balls.

But yeah. And rebounding, forgot to mention, im good at that. I love to come in soaring for them. I out rebound guys who are 6'3 all the time :) (and some more blocks recently, too)

my shot is impressive though.

well, there are plenty of drills out there to increase fast twitch muscles, ie, the ones that help you jump, but you are right. I used to try and touch the backboard 30 times straight, it helps. Then no step vertical, touch as high up the net/rim as you can, then one step, then two step, etc.

J/k, I play ball all the time actually. The one thing that gets me, is that at 21, I can't do some of the things I used to be able to do a few years back? Makes you realize just how physically gifted you have to be, in order to be a basketball player (the average human body will break down a lot quicker than Dwight Howard's).

Or, it could just be something in my diet that's lacking?
