View Full Version : Jay Bowmeester - What to do

So, with the trade deadline just over a month, what do you think the Panthers and JBo will do? The Panthers have been solid latley and are in the 8th seed, 1 point back of the 7th. Trailing the divison by 10 points against a team they play several more times makes a 3rd seed possible, though not probable as Washington is having a good season and would need to start to collapse a bit.

So, the question comes, where is Bouwmeester playing in April? Does he, (A) sign an extension, (B) get kept for a playoff push and risk losing him to free agency, or (C) get flipped for a minimum package of a young offensive threat, a prospect and a first rounder?

Say the Panthers continue to roll and position themselves in a higher seed and consisently play well. Does Martin keep Bouwmeester in tact for a playoff run, or does Martin feel confident in the rest of the defense that he can flip him for some extra offensive power. Or, does Jay decide that Florida is finally becoming a legit team for this year and years to come and resign? They say winning cures all.

I personally would prefer to trade him then to keep him for a run. However, my best scenario is he resigns. What do you guys think?

I doubt they extend him because he will make the big bucks out west. I don't wanna trade him because we are in the playoff hunt, and he is a large part of that.

trade him good young players then hope you can sign a FA star player or two in the off season. there should be a high demand for him by march deadline so you will be able to get something really good in return.

We can make the playoffs with him, I see where you are coming from

You guys need t hold onto Jay Bo until the end of the season. He's your best player, and is going to lead you into the playoffs. Then he will sign with the Leafs in the off season :)

I think that will happen - the Leafs part :)

What about the possibility of a sign-and-trade? This is ideal to me. He doesn't have any hard feelings about the team, so if he doesn't want an extension, then maybe he will agree to stay for this season and sign an extension before teh deadline with an underlying agreement that we will trade him during the offseason. This way, we keep him for the season and then still get value for the future, and Jay gets to go to a different team. We can even let him have his pick at teams if he was to agree to this...

I would love that. Get value and keep him for this year.

Here is my theory,
we sit Bo down,
We throw as much money as we can at him. We make that public. Show the fans we care and want to win and that we tried our best. He can either accept it, if we arent in the race still we trade him, or we trade his rights during the draft
