View Full Version : What would it take to trade LeBron

Ok this is mostly for Cavs fans but I didn't want to put it in the Cavs forum because I wanted more opinions. Anyway, let's say hypothetically that tommorrow LeBron publicly announces that he will join the Knicks in 2010 (assuming there wouldn't be tampering charges or anything like that) BUT if he were traded he would resign with whoever traded for him (and yes I know this scenario would never happen). What would it take for you to trade LeBron?

Hellcrooner
01-30-2009, 03:39 AM
Lebron CANT do that, because the acusation of tampering woud be inmediate.

And i dont think he knows already what he wants to do.

If sees Cavs can REALLY make it he may stay.

Of course he can join NJ or NY in 2010

And theres still a third posibility that NO ONE has thought of.

He is got a player option for 10-11 season.

He could USE that option to wait for the NEW league-Players deal that has to be discussed wich would allow the max salary to be higher than in 10 summer.

it also give cavs a longer window to get him help ( they will have money in 2010 to lure Bosh or Stou or something).

And if it isnt workign properly well guess what, Pierce and Allen, KObe and Pau expire in 2011, im sure ALL of them woudl take a paycut to add lebron to the fold.-.

But answering your question...

If he went public they would get a Pringles Can.

Teams knowing he will opt out will wait to oofer him the world withuth giving anything.

Knicks for example would offer them basically Chandler or gallinari and whatever expirings they could require.

And that would be one of the "best" offers.

You dont believe me?

See what kind of returns have teams received for superstars when they ahve ogne public.

See the Shaq trade to miami, the Barkely trade to the suns or the Kareem to Lakers trade.

I dont like it at all. I think the cavs should give up a few picks as well.

What would It honestly take. Well, first if Cle is woried about him leaving, so will other teams except NY. so he would need to be traded to the Knicks or the Nets. 2nd, you have to get talent back, which in all honesty the knicks gave away all their Talent. So probably something like VC, Devin Harris, Yi, Lopez, and 2 first.

the problem is if why would lebron want to go to a team that just gutted themselves and got rid of basically every good player they have just to sign him. he would be in a worse situation than he is now. lebron is basically untradeable for fair value. it would need to be something like the KG trade where they get 1 or 2 good young players and mass draft picks.

It cost the celtics 5 players, cash and some draft picks for K.G. Im guessing the same for Lebron

Hellcrooner
01-30-2009, 11:10 AM
^yeah and there was only one and a half decente players on the lot, Jeffersson ( that wouldnt have had a place with KG there) and Gomes.

You are making very unrealistic offers.

When a player says i want out you NEVER get any good about it.

COme one!!! Carter for Eric williams? Crap? and MOre crap?

Webber to phily for....a coca cola can and some doritos?

Gasol for Basically Gasol II and some marbles?

Thats more like it if Lebron says i want out, On or two good young players a expiring contract or two and fortunately a pick.

Hellcrooner

Example, Lakers would probably offer Yue, Ariza ( young players), Odom ( Expiring) and a First round.

And woudlnt be one of the worst offers aorund.

Lakers211221

The only 3 teams that Lebron could go to that would be contenders if they were to make a trade would be Boston, LA, and Orlando...

Boston: LBJ wouldn't want to go there if Garnett was traded and it would take a trade of Pierce then to give the CAVS something to desire...although, Pierce makes roughly 3.5 million more than LBJ so Clevland would have to throw in someone like West or Gibson to make up the difference and I'm sure Boston would have to give up a couple of 1st rounders which I'm sure they wouldn't mind since they would be late 1st rounders.

Lakers: Kobe wouldn't agree to a trade for him and is the only NBA player with a no-trade clause in his contract and the Lakers would probably not want to trade Bynum because their reasoning in this trade would be to have the wingman of the future with the bigman of the future...So, the Lakers would have to offer either Gasol or Odom...I doubt Clev would want to trade LBJ for either of these, but they would probably prefer Gasol to Odom. Obviously, the Lakers would also have to throw in future 1st rounders to try and sweeten the deal.

Magic: LBJ wouldn't want to go to a Howardless Orlando Magic, so lets just throw that idea away. Really, after that the best deal that Orlando could offer would be Nelson and Lewis plus a couple of 1st rounders for LBJ and Ben Wallace.

None of these deals would make a lot of sense to the CAVs because they would definatly get a lot worse and make which ever of these teams that they trade with the clear cut favorite to win it all. I guess if they absolutly know that he would walk at the end of his contract they might be tempted to pull the trigger, but it also might be better to let LBJ walk than trade him because they have 5 other players with expiring contracts that year including Ben, Z, and Pavlovic who combine with LBJ to = over 45 million and also have Verejao and Wally with contracts expiring at the end of this year that = another 19 million...so, by letting a bunch of overpaid players + LBJ walk, they could sign another high profile FA.

Your taking this thread to seriously man. Lebron isnt going to demand a trade. We all get it. Hell the thread creator said it himself he knows this wont happen. I think the main point was that he realizes a trade for Lebron would bring you back lots of talent. And he wants to know what talent that is. LEBRON ISNT BEING TRADED. Its just a hypothetical question really.

I know that Lebron is not going to be traded but Lebron to Chicago for Luol Deng, Ben Gordon, Drew Gooden, and 2010 1st rd draft pick would seem reasonable. Both teams make out pretty well:

Bulls "New" Starting Lineup
PG Derrick Rose
SG Larry Hughes
SF Lebron James
PF Tyrus Thomas
C Joakim Noah

Cavs "New" Starting Lineup
PG Mo Williams
SG Ben Gordon
SF Luol Deng
PF Drew Gooden
C Zydrunas Ilgauskas

I think the real Question is if any trade can be made for Lebron that would improve the Cavs and would also improve the team he was traded to. The closest I can think of although I wouldn't do this if I we're the Cavs is Brandon Roy and Lamarcus Aldridge for Lebron...

Z is such an injury prone guy and Roy could replace a lot of the versatility lebron brings you..

And I obviously like what Lebron can do with all that talent around him

personally i dont c the cavs winning this year so i think he would leave for NY becuz of more money, a bigger stage 4 the star, and a better chance 2 win. ITS CRAZY THAT THE KNICKS COULD SIGN AMARE AND LEBRON IN 2010. BUT THE ONLY TRADE I THINK THAT WOULD EVER HAPPEN 4 LEBRON IS 4 KOBE... THE THUNDER HAVE A BETTER CHANCE AT WINNING THE CHAMPIONSHIP THEN LEBRON BEING TRADED. GO STEELERS GO SPURS

As i stated before "I know that Lebron is not going to be traded" this was just based on the caliber of players in the trade. Three young quality players along with a draft pick.

Let me actually seriously answer the question.

From a knicks standpoint:

Our best offer would be DLee + Nate + Chandler + Gallinari + 2012 First round pick + 2014 First round pick.

Even then I bet a team like the Trailblazers could offer something more valueable without killing themselves.
