East coast bias as usual!!! Its not even close. Monta Ellis makes Barbosa and the rest look slow. and actually the 2nd fastest player int he league is K. mart in sacto! The rest are sloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooW!!

A player poll a year or two back had Ford as the fastest player with the ball. They'd probably be in the best position to know.

However, speed does not translate into agility. While Ford is incredibly fast basket-to-basket, he has a relatively slow first step and -zero- dribble moves. No crossover, no stutter step, etc. He completely relies on being fast to beat his man. If you watch a Pacers game, you'll actually see him backup 6ft behind the 3pt line so he can get a running start at his defender. Once he does though, he's relatively agile navigating the lane and avoiding slower big men.

01-23-2009, 01:21 PM
I think a lot of people are mixing up fast with quick. Tony parker is quick, he can beat his man to a spot 6 feet away. Guys like Barbosa, and Monta ellis are fast Thats why they get soo many fast break points. They can beat everyone up the floor almost any time they get an open court infront of them.

BTw- lebron is pretty fast for his size, but even if you catch him hell finish right through you... not just by beating his guy. He might be the best guy at getting from top of the key to the rim in the league though

Third paragraph: "Ford was voted the fastest player in the NBA in a 2007 Sports Illustrated survey of 271 NBA players"

Yea I'd say Parker is quicker then he is fast....even though he is still a top player in terms of speed up and down the court.

Personally I think its CP3 right now

superkegger
01-23-2009, 01:30 PM
Ford, Parker, Harris, Rose, Ellis and Barbosa are all extremely quick. It's pretty much a toss-up.

JAZZNC
01-23-2009, 01:34 PM
Tony Parker, he's fast just like Ford but he's also got skill unlike Ford.

DreamShaker
01-23-2009, 01:38 PM
Aaron Brooks would be my homer pick....but gotta go with Harris....hes ridiculous....

PhillySportFan
01-23-2009, 01:40 PM
As you guys are saying quick and fast are different, someone who can get by even the fastest in the league is Andre Miller, he has this hesistation thing that he blows by a lot of people with and he is by no means fast. He has a good burst when he needs it though.

I think it's Tony Parker and/or Derrick Rose. The fact that Rose is not on this list is a little odd...watching him switch gears at times makes him look olympic fast.

All-time:
Allen Iverson
Jason Kidd
Kevin Johnson
Muggsy Bogues

Right now:
Derrick Rose
Monta Ellis
Tony Parker

Saltinuts40

The only reason the voting isn't all Ellis is because he has been out with injury.

Also, where is Leonardo Barbosa? He's the second fastest

J4KOP99
01-23-2009, 05:19 PM
LeBron James can make it from elbow to the opposite basket in 6 steps. He is by far the fastest.

The guys being mentioned may be the QUICKEST but LeBron is the FASTEST

I voted for Ford because 271 NBA players said he's the fastest player in the NBA. They're in a position to know.

01-23-2009, 09:59 PM
"With the ball," it has to be Monta. Without the ball I would agree that it is Ford. Fast (straight line speed) and quick (change of direction) are 2 separate things. With the ball Ford may be the quickest.

YankDEEZ
01-23-2009, 10:05 PM
either monta ellis, or tony parker, without the ball its either tj ford or maybe lebron

I should've included Derrick Rose in this. Like I clearly stated "fastest player WITH THE BALL." I know Barbosa is lightning when he runs and gets from one side of the court to the other, but he doesn't move fast enough with the ball, watch the games - you'll see what I mean.

Shieldsz
01-24-2009, 01:44 AM
I agree with whoever said Iverson back then.. so fast.

Barbosa is fast as hell.
