CHICAGO -- The Cubs continued their offseason restructuring on Tuesday, sending pitcher Jason Marquis to the Colorado Rockies in exchange for reliever Luis Vizcaino.

Marquis, who was 11-9 with a 4.53 ERA last season, is the second Cubs player traded in a week. On New Year's Eve, the team dealt Mark DeRosa to the Indians for three Minor League pitchers and signed free agent Aaron Miles.

The Cubs, who posted the best record in the National League in 2008, also have lost closer Kerry Wood, who signed with the Indians, while adding right-hander Kevin Gregg, and are expected to finalize a three-year deal with Milton Bradley by the end of the week.

The Cubs bullpen will definitely have a different look in 2009 with the addition of Vizcaino, Gregg, and possibly Rule 5 Draft pick David Patton and Jeff Stevens, acquired from the Indians in the DeRosa deal.

Vizcaino, 34, was 1-2 with a 5.28 ERA in 43 games last season with the Rockies, with 49 strikeouts over 46 innings. The right-hander has a career 4.34 ERA over 10 seasons, including one year with the Chicago White Sox (6-5, 3.73 ERA in 2005).

He also has pitched for Oakland, Milwaukee, Arizona, and the New York Yankees, and the Cubs will be Vizcaino's sixth different team in the last six years.

Hot Stove

Marquis is in the final year of a three-year contract he signed with the Cubs in December 2006. The right-hander is to be paid $9.875 million this year, and the Cubs are expected to pay $1 million of that. Vizcaino is set to make $4 million this year.

Great move for both teams. Rockies get an innings eater who has logged 28 starts in each of the last 5 years. Their rotation was weak last year and really made them overuse their bullpen all year. For the cubs, they get a reliever that will help replace Marmol, who moves to the Closer role. In addition, the Cubs shed a few millions in payroll

It was just finalized... nothing was done til now. Thought it was worth mentioning. Lock it if you feel it unneccessary though.

Well I see reports that Boaras will have a face to face with Met Mgmt. Could we get both Lowe and Ollie? If so i'm glad Marquis this option is gone. Still leaves a few holes but every team has some. Good solid pitching covers them up.
