DENVER (AP)—Denver Nuggets All-Star Carmelo Anthony will miss at least three weeks with a broken bone in his shooting hand—but won’t need surgery.

The team said Tuesday that Anthony will be fitted for a removable splint after breaking a bone in his right hand in a victory over the Indiana Pacers the night before.

Anthony was injured early in the third quarter when Pacers center Jeff Foster swatted at the ball, catching part of Anthony’s hand.

Anthony continued to play despite numbness in the hand, scoring 21 points before leaving late in the fourth quarter of a 135-115 win.

Yikes. This really hurts Denver. Would JR Smith be starting now at the 3?

Really this is probably a blessing in disguise. He's been plagued with bad elbows. This three weeks will allow that problem to resolve itself. When he comes back he should play more consistent ball.

...This sucks for my fantasy team though...

Right when the Nuggets were playing very well too. Never really saw Melo getting injured so much in one year. The replay didn't look like he broke it.

Damn, saw that he might miss time last night, but 3 weeks, that sucks, hope his recovery goes well. The Nuggets have a chance to be something pretty special this year, hopefully this doesn't derail the effort.

Does Melo make the allstar team now?

Melo won't make the all-star team as a starter but maybe as a backup even with the injury.

Sucks for my fantasy team. I traded J.R for Melo, irony :(

Melo had a good chance of not being an All Star even before the injury because of the missed time and the average numbers. Now its a certainty.

Denver without Melo... Utah without Boozer... Portland without Roy...
Now is the time for Oklahoma City to make their run in the Northwest Division:rolleyes: Too bad all three of those teams are still better than the Thunder even with each team down an all-star.

tough news for the nuggets... melo is a tough ball player... its pretty amazing how he fininshed the game and even through a dunk down with a broken hand...

Nuggets have some tough games coming up. Here is the rest of the month:
Miami, Detroit, Dallas, Phoenix, Orlando, Houston, Sacramento, Utah, Memphis, New Orleans, Charlotte.

I think Kleiza will fill his spot initially.

Nah. We'll hang tough through this stretch. We still have 2 former and 2 future all stars on our active roster, and some pretty good role players who have some tenacity. I think we'll weather this storm fairly well, albeit probably not as well as if Melo had been around. He should miss 10-12 games. I think we can still go .600+ in that stretch.

dun dun dunnnnnn

means the Jazz will have played the Nuggets twice without Anthony by the time he heals, its worked out well for us...even though I maintain we'll beat them with Melo, but every little helps

You know, it's great to see so many Blazers and Jazz fans showing so much class by being thrilled that Melo got injured...

Yeah I dislike when elite teams play other teams not being at full strength.
