Anyone with a heartbeat who follows the NBA knows how good players like Lebron James, Dwayne Wade, Dwight Howard, and Kobe Bryant are, but itís time to give the less-publicized players some attention.

The article continues here:
http://davissportsdeli.com/wordpress/2009/01/04/5-under-appreciated-players-in-the-nba/

This is my first attempt at a blog article, so comments would be great. I'm helping out PSD member oldenpolynice in his blog, I'm sure some of you have seen his posts in the NBA forum.

this article sucks derek... nah im just kidding. It's pretty good, especially for it being your first one

i completely agree with salmons though more so than anyone on that list. Without him the kings would have 1 win maybe 2. Kings fans give him so much **** for being a ball hog down the stretch, but where would we be without him. we'd be blown out every game. we tend to look at what he does in the last minute and a lot of the times we forget about what he does in the first 47.

I personally would've included ronny turiaf.

but good job

Kendrick Perkins ... and not just because he is my sig :)

many teams dont think of him as a threat... but he really does have his moments and he is a solid rebounder

I could play center and PG for the celtics at the same time.

how bout mo williams? last time I checked he was ranked 13th in the all-star voting for PG'S ALONE... Now im not saying he is an all-star, but I think he is having a better season then gilbert arenas and luke rinour lol.

Which is why I decided to give him one last hurrah.

And a guy like Joe Johnson wouldn't make the list, he's an all star. This article was more focused on role players, not "underrated stars."

Ariza is having a good year, but he plays on the Lakers so by default he gets exposure.

Haslem is a guy that deserves to make the list, but I tried to focus on players I knew really well so I could make a good analysis on them. I haven't seen Haslem play this year and I didn't feel comfortable talking about player I hadn't seen play. I didn't want to just rattle off stats.

Perkins, same thing, he's on the Celtics, so by default, exposure.

Glad to see someone mention Jeff Foster. I don't understand how he has been left to rot in Indiana the past few years without a team making a trade for him. Playoff teams and potential playoff teams like Orlando, Cleveland, Miami, Boston, Denver, and New Orleans could certainly use him.

Jeff foster

Much better O rebound percentage, and total rebound %
His TS% and EFG% pwn the living **** out of him
His assist, steal, and block % all double his

I'd have to say Kevin Durant. Since the coaching change in OKC- he has averaged over 25ppg, 8rpg, 3apg, 1.5spg, 1.3bpg, 46%FG, and 43% 3-point FG's (Making 1.8 per game). What's going to happen when he gets two more years of experience under his belt? How about 20 more pounds on his frame? He's gona be scary. He just turned 20 in September!
If i were the OKC, I don't think I'd trade him for anyone not named Dwyane Wade, Chris Paul, Lebron James or Dwight Howard. (No not Kobe either Laker-people, 10 year age difference!) (For the past month in Yahoosports-fantasy, Durant outranks Kobe , D. Howard and D. Wade.)
I'm not a Thunder fan (not yet)- I have Durant on my fantasy squad and he kills for me.

For real, i feel bad for Joe. He gets no love at all. Should make the All-Star team.

Thanks for all the comments guys, they are much appreciated. I knew going in that I was going to miss some guys, but that makes those guys "truly under-appreciated" if I don't mention them. My next blog is coming up soon, will post it when it's done.

We aren't talking about underated, we are talking about under appreciated. Players who play big but don't get talked about in the news 24/7. ESPN would rather show clips of Kobe Bryant missing a shot than Okur, Salmons, or Pietrus. Personally i think Michael Redd deserves ALOT of credit. The guy is a premier scorer in the league and has stayed with the Bucks for his entire career so far, despite them always being a sub par team with not much help around him. I wouldn't mind Redd coming to the Kings eventually.

Who are they being under-appreciated by? The rest of the league, or their own fan base?

basketball3553

l Jefferson in that list too cause he hardly gets talked about. I know that he's on a really bad team, but he's I'm pretty sure he's the youngest guy in the NBA averaging 20 points and ten rebounds. He's doing all that on a team that can hardly win a game, so basically no real strong supporting cast.

David Lee- he gets double doubles all the time but will never be dennis rodman or karl malone, not even Kurt Rambis. Dirty work never make the stat sheet

I think that your picks are legit, but i think there are people who are better and more underappreciated:
1: Udonis Haslem
2: Shane Battier
3: Tayshaun Prince(never even been an allstar while his teammates did, even ben wallace)
4: jeff foster
5: james posey

The media, fans, fans of other teams, pretty much everyone. I focused mostly on role players that do the dirty work, that do things that don't show up on the stat sheet and I think guys like Jared Dudley and Jeff Foster are the definition of that.
