Pietrus said before Wednesday's game in Chicago that he could be out "two to four weeks," although he'll have a better idea when team doctors examine him.

"It's really tough," Pietrus said. "Somebody in the locker room said we need to get that black cat away from me."

Pietrus already had missed 10 games (Nov. 29-Dec. 18) after sustaining a torn ligament in his right thumb.

He had been back for just four games when he fell hard after making a dunk on Monday night against the Detroit Pistons in Auburn Hills, Mich.

"It's very unfortunate for Mickael. It's one of the harder falls I've seen," Coach Stan Van Gundy said. "We're sort of used to playing without him because he was just out for a long time. He was just starting to get his legs under him and now he's out for a longer period of time."

In Pietrus' absence, Keith Bogans started his 13th game of the season against the Bulls.

Signed as a free agent last summer, Pietrus has played in 20 games (15 starts), averaging 11.7 points and 3.2 rebounds. He has missed 12 games in all, sitting out one because of bruised ribs (Nov.18).
