View Full Version : Pray For Darius Miles - 10 Games to Go

If he plays 10 games for the Grizzlies this year his salary goes back on the books of the Portland Trailblazers.

That is 18.6 million over the next two years, making one of the most talent laden young teams in need of expiring contracts before the trade deadline.

Does anyone know of any other similar situations in prior years.

Smart move by the grizzlies IMO. They are an up and rising team in the next 2-5 years. Why not pick up Darius and screw portland (another rising team) over. Makes sense to me. lol

I'm glad the Grizzlies did this. You don't even have to play Miles, just the fact that he's taking up Portland's cap space is reason enough to have him on the roster

lol Grizzlies should play him 9 games and try and get something out of the Blazers to not play him a 10th

I heard the celtics took a bribe from the blazers

Why would u be wishing bad on a team or doing this to spite one? What did the Blazers do to Memphis? Nothing I recall. It's not Memphis would be better because it. This makes no sense.

I can see why the Grizz would do it. Then again, maybe they really think Miles will actually contribute...

That is funny, I hope he makes it 10 games also...... That would suck if that happened to the Jazz though....

Thats a pretty lame thing to do

Maybe they are doing it hoping he can really contribute. I can't imagine they are doing it just to screw another team.

Like a couple mil is going to make Paul Allen sweat!! LoL he's got 16 billion and its not like the Blazers cant go over the salary cap.

They also loose Raef LaFrentz at the end of the year and thats valued at $12,722,500.

He has to play 10 games before he counts against the cap. If he played 9 games and his season ended then he wouldn't count against the cap.

And...he has to spend his first 10 games on suspension because of failing a drug test..lol

Good thread. I'm also wanting to slow down the progress of Portland. I think to an extent it won't matter too much though, because Paul Allen is made of money anyway.

The Blazers would never do that... you really over estimate the impact of Darius Miles' contract. Even with him on the books, they can still sign a player to a max contract next year:

D. Miles: $9M
J. Przybilla: $6.86M
G. Oden: $5.36M
L. Aldridge: $5.84M
M. Webster: $5M
B. Roy: $3.91M
J. Bayless: $2.14M
R. Fernandez: $1.17M
S. Rodriguez: $1.89M
N. Batum: $1.18M
Total = $42.35M

Team Options
S. Blake $4.9M
T. Outlaw $4M
C. Frye $4.3M (or match if higher)
I. Diogu $3.95 (or match if... who are we kidding)

Worst case scenario, their team is:
C: Oden/Przybilla
PF: Aldridge/
SF: Webster/Batum
SG: Roy/Fernandez
PG: Bayless/Rodriguez
w/ about $18M to spend on F.A.'s

The only real difference is if Miles is off the roster, they could keep Blake and Outlaw AND sign a F.A. to a max contract.

you do realize he has to play in 10 games for his salary to count against the blazers cap right?

I gotta say this is one of the funnier threads, I like the one than says Memphis should start him against the Blazers.

I hope they do start him in Portland because Ive got 7th row tickets and I might give them to Portland native Tonya Harding and an accompliss of hers(opps) I meant a friend, my bad!

Really how much damage could a little figure skater do!!!
