What kind of question is that? The other team is working to beat you in both situations.

The latter.

When you're the top dog, everyone starts gunning for you. You may have momentum, but that wears off after awhile.

When you're horrible, players are at each others' throats, coaches are getting fired, and everyone's getting injured. You may have the advantage of catching a team expecting an easy win, but you still have to put in the points to pull it off.

Although judging by the W/L records, they're probably about equal -- 72-10 for best record, 9-73 for worst.
