Esteban Batista, Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv’s center for the last year and a half, has been released from the team.
In his time with the team, he reached the finals of the Euroleague Championship (last season).
Batista was expected to leave Israel on Saturday, and it is thought he will play for a team in Russia.
This season, Batista contributed an average 3.6 points in Euroleague games and 2.6 rebounds in five games.

Very sad to see how low a player can go. Just to think he had potential back when he played for the Atlanta Hawks.

yeah, he had a couple of solid games. too bad it didn't work out...

I read somewhere that he is likely to sign with a Russian team. however, with all the financial problems going on with russian teams, I think it's more likely he'll end up in Spain

EuroBasket.com has basically the same blurb except for pointing out that it is thought that Batista would join Triumph Lyubertsy, who recently released Nenad Krstic

there are some reports that Batista couldn't handle the cold in Russia, so he left BC Triumph and returned to Uruguay

Uruguay is where he played well and he wants to go to where ever he can play well and play the most amount of minutes. In Uruguay, he's the star and the guy everyone looks up to.

If he didn't care about his minutes and concentrated more on working hard, he would have had a ring with the Boston Celtics and would have been getting at least 15 minutes per night by now.
