Here was a guy who came into the league averaging 18 ppg / 6.6 apg / 5.3 rpg

For Francis's first 6 years in the league he averaged 19.7 ppg / 6.5 apg / 6.1 rpg / 1.6 spg on 43% FG with a 19.1 PER

What happened to him, why did he all of a sudden fall off?

Injury, Knicks (Got Traded and put up only decent numbers - 10/3.5), and When he was on he was really good.

Francis was no where near that level though.

I think it's because of Cuttino Mobley's trade from Houston.

I think it's because of Cuttino Mobley's trade from Houston.

They were traded together for TMac following Francis's 5th season. In his 6th, he still put up 21 ppg, 6 rpg, and 7 apg. I'm not completely familiar with his injury history, but it seems like a combination of injuries, the Knicks, and simply wearing out his welcome.

He was never very efficient with shooting percentages in the low 40s and nearly 4 turnovers pg when he got big minutes, so teams probably realized he wasn't the player we all thought and shouldnt necessarily get 15+ shots per game.

But still, the huge dropoff came when he was traded to the Knicks. He was getting 16 ppg, 5 rpg, and 6 apg in 38 mpg in 2005-2006 for Orlando with his best shooting percentage in a few years (taking less shots). But when he went to the Knicks something just killed him. He didnt start every game, his rebounds and assists plummetted, and he got much fewer shots.

That essentially lead to the end of his career. He can still play, but with such low efficiency teams just dont seem to be willing to give him the team anymore. Without wins, an aging, inefficient, shoot-first point guard who demands the ball just isn't as attractive anymore.
