View Full Version : Price vs. Joba

Tragedy

Both young..Both probably headed to their teams rotation in 2009..Both have fantastic stuff.

Now the question is, 2009 ALONE (NOT career): Who does better?

And for those that are unaware, this is of course David Price vs. Joba Chamberlain.

I think Joba will do better next year, but Price may have a better career

it really depends which of them...if either of them
end up in the rotation

I'll take Joba.

I think that Joba will have a better 2009 because he will know from ST that he will be a starter, and not be switched back and forth between the BP and a starting role. Plus, price pitched about 125 innings total last year, and I don't know how he will handle the extra 75 innings this year.

I do think that Price will have the better career though, because he, unlike Joba, has no prior injury history, and probably has as good of stuff as Joba.

Joba :)

I honestly do think that though. A lot of pitchers shine in their call ups and then go through a rough adjustment period. There are injury concerns for both (Joba more so) however so who knows.

Joba will end up with a similar innings limit to Price. In 07 Joba pitched a combined 112 innings. He pitched 118 innings one year in college so he's looking at best 148 innings.

In college Price threw 133 innings on year, so he could probably go 163 or so innings.

I agree with you though, Joba will probably have a better 09 but Price should have the better career.

I'd say Price, as I think he's ready to go. He's that polished and he obviously has more upside.

Now if we want to go under ESPN metrics, of course Joba. How he didn't beat out Lincecum and Lee for both Cy Youngs baffles me.

Joba in 09 likely but Price will have a better career. I think he projects better long-term than Joba.

...and Joba doesn't have nasty stuff?

Keith Law recently said in a chat that Joba had the better stuff, however slightly, between him and Price.

If both are given at least 25 starts, I'm taking Joba on this one. I think either are interchangable and either could be downright filthy in 2009, but I think Joba's experiences in the AL the last two years helps him a bit.

I think both put up solid numbers, though.

Can joba handle a full season as a starter, can he go past 6 innings?

Thats my question, imo hes a great pitcher, but can he be a viable starter

The Yankees are going to rightfully baby Joba along. There is no reason to make him pitch past the 6th inning too much right off the bat. If I were a fan of their team, I'd be hoping Girardi was super careful with him (little fishy that all those young Marlins got hurt after he left).
