Tragedy

Come on.

Ramirez has done this for over 10 years. Ortiz has been good since 2003.

For every 10 calories consumed in a day, you gain a point in OBP.

They Probably wanted to vote Ortiz just to get a kick out of it somehow & for some reason.

But, there is no question Manny is the better player.

Well, Manny causes problems with his defense. Ortiz avoids that by being a DH

Manny Ramirez

One of the greatest hitters I have ever seen, and probably a top hitter in the history of the league.

Manny is quite possibly the best hitter of the past ten years. Sure, Ortiz can hit the ball a mile with that monster stroke of his, but Manny is just an all around solid hitter, whether it is for average, for HR, doesn't really matter, because Manny has done it. Lets get him in pinstripes...

Gigantes4Life

It's not possible that Manny is "quite possibly the best hitter" in the last decade, considering some guy named Bonds played during that time as well, IIRC.

The steroid loser? I don't even count him.

Pujols.

Pujols.
Well, Bonds > Pujols.

Manny is, to THIS point, the greatest right handed hitter of our generation (debatable, though). With more years, Pujols will probably steal the title. Either way, the lefty Bonds is the greatest of our generation all together and one of the top 5 greatest of all time.

Gotta take Manny here, and as for Bonds...you have to count him in the discussion for greatest hitter of all time because he was already on his way to being one of the greatest before he took whatever he took, and even if he did take something to help his power numbers, how can you say the pitchers werent? I mean I dont like him as a person or a player but you cannot deny his numbers, he was amazing.

Ok, first of all Ortiz is one of the most unathletic players that I have ever seen in the MLB and the olny thing that he is good for is hitting home runs, he cant hit that many doubles because he has absolutely no speed on the basepath. As far as Manny goes he can produce a lot of home runs but he also produces a lor of RBI's as well, and Manny has a lot more extra base hits than David Ortiz will ever have.

ROIDS I know some of you are gonna hate me for this but its true. You don't hit that many home runs in the decline of your career without some assistance

Uh, what?

Manny Ramirez is pathetic in the OF. So, because he plays a pathetic OF and Ortiz only DH's, Ramirez is better?

Fact is, a great DH vs. a great hitter who is a terrible fielder, the great DH is more valuable because he's hurting his team less. However, Ramirez is still superior to Ortiz.

As for the doubles comment, did you miss the part where Ortiz had 31 in 03, 47 in 04, 40 in 05, 29 in 06, 52 in 07, and 30 in 08? So, that's not good enough?

Oh, and just for the record, Ramirez doubles since 03:

36, 44, 30, 27, 33, 36.

Yeah.

How do you know? No one knows for sure a few things:

1) The TRUE effect on what steroids does to hitting HR's/making you better.
2) How long did Bonds do roids? Did he ever knowingly do it?
