View Full Version : Is Elton Brand a disappointment?

Maybe this is better suited for the Sixers forum, but whatever. Thus far, Brand is going averaging 16 and 10. Which isn't bad, except hes getting basically 14 million this year and will continue to get paid more, and the sixers are 9-14. So I ask you, is Elton Brand a dissapointment thus far?

So far, yes.

Exactly.

... by under-achieving aren't you disappointing?

To me:
Disappointment so far.. how could you say you've been have with his play?

Yes, Elton Brand has been a huge dissapointment for the Sixers, he's had very little impact this season. He has decent numbers, but he's not having an impact on the defensive end of the court. He just doesn't bring enough to the table to help the Sixers truly compete with the "elite" teams in the East.

12-11-2008, 01:23 AM
disappointing?? yes...but not bringing enough to the table?? NO

come on guys...hes a proven 20-10 mid-post/post player and every single gm in the league wanted to land him until the sixers got him.

The 76ers are just having growing pains right now. The chemistry is lacking but they should figure it out soon.

As a Sixers fan, no I'm not dissapointed in him although I expected more of him. But this team has to develop some kind of chemistry because we have a lot of talent, but obviously there's something wrong here. Thats why I think Stefanski is brewing up a trade soon, just to tinker around, I'm assuming. I hope we can pull it together though

Vinny642

i didn't expect that much outta Brand for some reason but thats probably why I said no.

12-11-2008, 01:51 AM
well right now huge dissapointment, but i think the expectations where way to high. He just got off a major surgery and now people expect him to be back at all-star form. Its going to be awhile till he gets adjusted to his new team and being able to trust his health. Trust me, anytime you have a major surgery like that, it takes time to be able to trust ur ability again, your still thinking about it and trying to not get hurt. i bet you any amount of money that once hes 100% and the sixers are playing well as a group in a month or two, they will be just fine

man only analyst and philly fans were hyped over the guy ,he's corny and them 6ers fans redulculed me how he was gon be mvp ,the 6erswould be better than orlando blah blah they not even .500 and young is the best player on the team

He is disappointing me in fantasy this year.....

12-11-2008, 01:56 AM
Im more Disappointed in Sammy D, He just hasnt played great with Elton Brand. Brand nees to stop shooting mid range jumpers too much, Use your body and bang down low alittle bit more.

He has been good but the whole team just isnt working great together like we all expected. People are not playing the way they use to, It could be because they need to get use to eachother..We need Louis Williams and Rush to step it up from Outside. Iggy has been playing much better then last few games

He aint as individual maybe you could expect a bit more but he just didnt gave Sixers what they were looking for and thats a dissapointment

Serves him right for screwing with LA, the guy shouldve known it be alot harder for him with Andre Miller instead of Baron as his PG, and absolutely no shooters that defenses respect enough to not focus on him. Granted he can do better but he was so set in LA, everyone knew he was the man and he would get the most touches, now he and his teammates look lost. Like I said when he first signed, the Sixers took a step back hoping that Brand takes them 2 forward. It'll take time but as of now hes disappointing

superkegger
12-11-2008, 03:23 AM
Well it looks like my thoughts were echoed and confirmed. An overwhelming majority thus far think Brand has been dissapointing.

Havent watched many games of his, but those numbers are a bit low. Besides last year he's usually around 20 + and the sixers arent playing well. If they had a winning record it wouldnt be a big deal. so yea so far.

Don't be mad at Elton, be mad at the sixers for paying way to much for this guy

Well the Clippers won a playoff series with brand having the best year of his career.

And you completely opened yourself up for it, but if any big man knows about putting up numbers on a bad team, its KG!

Rome

haha yikes. KG over Brand though...obviously.

a lot of people did, me included. They've, so far, not lived up to expectations.

Which is suprising with the squad they got, i actually like their team, but oh well.

Their game play just hasn't been using him right IMO.

hockeypro68
12-11-2008, 06:17 AM
Elton himself hasn't been disappointing. He's playing fine. The problem is his effect on Iggy, and Dalembert, and the Sixers are stuggling, so his addition to the team Has been disappointing. You can't deny that

barreleffact
12-11-2008, 09:11 AM
he isnt disapointing me just because i didnt have high expectations from him just yet anyway. coming back from a year off you never really know what you're gonna get. if he doesnt improve then yes, but as of now its king of like jermaine o'neal. you cant expect much off the bat offensively

12-11-2008, 11:20 AM
I always thought it was the personell on the team of why Brand hasn't succeeded, but now seeing him in Philly, I can see why he has only been in the playoffs one time. I think he could possibly have the same effect that Zach Randolph has on a team and that is a stat filler.

He shouldn't have been a prick and abandoned his buddy Baron...

This team is but he isnt.

td0tsfinest
12-11-2008, 11:42 AM
he should've stayed in LA. Made no sense, especially since Baron was coming back to LA.
People hyped them up, saying #2, 3 in the east, now people are hoping for them to make the playoffs.

JJ81

I didn't expect anything more from him. His team is more of a let down to him I think.

Hawkeye15
12-11-2008, 07:49 PM
I expect he will get better as the season goes on. He missed pretty much all of last year, and moved teams. He will get back to 19-11, and blocking some shots.

So is Philly as a whole more dissapointing than Elton?

He's getting his just deserts. All is well in the universe.

MilfHunter07
12-11-2008, 08:04 PM
The thing is that the Sixers don't really have a go to guy, because both Brand and Iggy are 2nd option's not first which they are lacking.

I never thought of Brand of being more than a borderline All-Star even before his injury and all.

He hasn't been disappointing at all IMO. He's averaging 16 pts and 10 boards per game. How's that bad? He's doing exactly what he was brought there to do.

The Sixers on the other hand have severely disappointed. Brand & Thaddeus are their only bright spots.

12-11-2008, 08:54 PM
Not really. Brand has been playing well. Brand hasn't fit very well in the line-up so far, and this has been a disappointment. Our talented, underachieving roster as a whole has been a disappointment. If there was one player I would have to single out on the roster, it would be Dalembert.

JordansBulls
12-12-2008, 12:24 PM
Well Philly and Toronto haven't been as good as they were predicted this year even though both teams got allstar type big men.

i would say the team is more dissapointing than the player himself. philly has been the most underacheiving team this year, edging out mavs, raps and suns. U can't say the team needs more time kuz it been since the summer and more than 25% of the season is finished.

He certainly is trying his best out there, but he cannot control how great he can play anymore. This is essentially what injuries like those does to players in the NBA.

Gilbert Arenas is next in line.

No as a sixer fan.. i can tell you this:

He is playing great (injured hamstring made him blow last 2 games). The sixers overall are dissappointing
