ESPN is reporting that a heart ailment will force Cuttino Mobley to retire and that an announcement will be made on Thursday.
Mobley reportedly was being tested for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, which is the same condition that took the lives of Reggie Lewis and Hank Gathers.

That must be a rotoworld quote.... always all about fantasy.

Bummer for Mobley though.

this is too bad. I am a big Cat Mobley fan. He always played with a ton of heart and could shoot with the best of em. He still had a lot of basketball left in him. Its sad to see his career cut short

Poor guy. I was hoping he would be OK and play for us.

I wish him nothing but the best.

I always hate hearing stories like this. Never want to see a player being forced to retire but health is always the most important. Hopefully everything gets taken care of with him.

I'm surprised this didn't appear while he was a Clipper. At least he can prevent any future harm now, still sad to see a career end like that.

Yeah, I always liked Mobley for some reason, and he never even played for the Bulls...tough break, wish him the best.

P.S. Don't rag on phlp_bj, all he did was quote a source...yell at those ****ers over at rotoworld who could care less about anything other than "all you fantasty owners". Sheesh.

He is a millionaire. He will be fine...now he can move on to an analyst job and make more money...

Yeah, but he wants to still play basketball.

It's unfortunate that his career got cut short like this.

Man, sad to hear a good guy like Mobley has to retire. I just hope he's able to live on with this condition without any problems.

I hope he stays healthy and he is fine. I really really really wanted to see this guy in a knick uniform, but thats not important when it comes to health!

(Props to Donnie Walsh for not accepting a waiver like his previous teams did and actually sending him to get tested in more than one place)

It's actually like a blessing in disguise for Mobley, because he probably would have never found out that he has a heart issue if he was not traded to the Knicks. Everything happens for a reason. God works in mysterious ways.
