how can we have an International Basketball forum which for some odd reason only covers European ball, but doesn't have anything on the Spanish league?

yes, this might affect activeness in the Greek and Italian league threads, but if I get help for this, I might be able to keep those threads going.

and now, some news and scores from the Spanish league

Badalona to make a final decision on Pops Mensah-Bonsu
Source: the Hoop Blog

The administration of Badalona are expected to make a final decision on Pops Mensah-Bonsu(2.05-PF). They are not very happy about his behaviour towards the team and his decision to off on his own to seek treatment for his injury. In case the player has not had a satisfactory recovery it is possible that his contract will be broken and the player will be released.

As an alternative they might consider serbian center Petar Popovic(2.10-C) who has a contract with Estudiantes until the middle of December. It is not certain that Estudiantes will renew it as Martin Rancik will be returning to action soon.

Cummings goes? Popovic stays..

Estudiantes are going to release Vonteego Cummings(1.91-PG) according to marca.com as they've already found his substitute. That is what the article says and they're justifying the imminent release of the american point guard with the pretext that he didn't have good relations with the coaching staff. Estudiantes haven't announced anything yet so it remains to be seen.

On a sidenote Petar Popovic's(2.10-C) contract is going to expire on December 15th and the team is considering to keep him until the end of the season regardless if Martin Rancik makes a comeback after his problem with his heart condition that has plagued him for years. In actual fact doctors have repeatedly advised the talented slovakian not to play..

Videnov hits 7 Three Pointers but Granada still loses 82-86 to Barcelona
Source: EuroBasket.com

GB Granada almost upset Regal FC Barcelona at Barcelona, but came up short at the end 86-82. The big contributor for Granada was 6'5' guard/forward Filip Videnov who scored 27 points in 37 minutes, hitting 7 for 11 from behind the three-point line where he is shooting a fabulous 55,2 % for the season. This is the first time that the Bulgarian has played more than 20 minutes in a game and he showed what he can do when he gets the time

Nielsen joins Pamesa as Valencia club parts with Dikoudis
Source: FIBA.com (http://www.fiba.com/pages/eng/fc/news/lateNews/p/newsid/28987/arti.html)

VALENCIA (ACB) - Pamesa Valencia have said good-bye to one international basketball star but hello to another.

The ACB club has announced that is has parted with Dimos Dikoudis, a member of Greece’s silver-medal winning side at the 2006 FIBA World Championship, and signed Australia captain Matt Nielsen.

The 30-year-old Nielsen, like Dikoudis, is a power forward and he played for the Boomers this summer at the Olympics.

The former Lietuvos Rytas star has penned a deal for the remainder of this season and next.

He could make his debut with Neven Spahija's team on Sunday against Tau Ceramica, the side Spahija led to last year’s ACB crown.

"I am really happy to have arrived at this club," said Nielsen. "I have heard very good things about the team and all positive.

"This is a great city and it's a great opportunity for me to play again with Spahija. I know certain players and for me this is a wonderful chance and a great experience to be in a league like the ACB."

Nielsen had played under Spahija 2005-06 at Lietuvos Rytas and helped fire the Lithuania giants to a domestic league crown.

Pamesa's Claver out five months
Source: EuroCupBasketball.com (http://www.eurocupbasketball.com/ulebcup/home/news/i/39936/448)

Pamesa Valencia's trademark young player, power forward Victor Claver, will be out for five months, the club announced. Claver suffered a left leg fracture during the Eurocup game of his team against Fortitudo Bologna, which Pamesa won by 71-77. Claver will undergo surgery on Thursday evening and if the estimated recovery period is five months, which means that he could be back on the courts by the month of April, very likely causing him to miss all the Eurocup season, even if Pamesa would be able to make the Final Eight that month. In the first Eurocup game this season against BC FMP, Claver scored 6 points and pulled 4 boards while in the second he could only be on court for less than 10 minutes.

I guess this means more of Kosta Perovic, lucky shmos...

Badalona releases Pops Mensah-Bonsu
Source: The Hoop Blog (http://thehoop.blogspot.com/2008/12/badalona-released-pops-mensah-bonsu.html)

This is the last episode of the Mensah-Bonsu saga with Badalona..

Badalona officially released Pops Mensah-Bonsu(2.05-PF) and they announced it via their website. This was a long overdue announcement from Badalona that were not intending of keeping Bonsu in their roster.

The talented ghanese-british power forward inherited a shoulderblade injury during the Eurobasket preliminary games playing for the British National Team. His extended trip in the USA against the team's wishes gave Badalona the excuse to release the player who will have to undergo surgery in order to recover fully from the injury. This can potentially be a good number of weeks before he is ready to play again. Badalona wished him well in the future and also wished him a speedy recovery.

"A" means assists right?

Cause I checked the last two games, Ricky got 12 and 10, respectively. So I would assume that means assists.

Tiago Splitter Out 3 Weeks
Source: EuroBasket.com

Hours before the team opened the Top 16 at home on Wednesday night, Tau Ceramica announced that all-Euroleague center Tiago Splitter (211-C/F-85, agency: Interperformances) will miss at least two games with a muscle tear in his left leg. After being unable to practice on Tuesday, Splitter underwent tests that revealed a micro-tear in his left hamstring. Team doctors estimate his recovery period at 'around three weeks'.

Raul Lopez Sidlined for 3 Weeks
Source: The Hoop Blog

Real Madrid announced on Thursday that point guard Raul Lopez(1.82-PG) would be sidelined for the next three weeks after aggravating a leg injury in Wednesday’s home win over Regal FC Barcelona to open the Top 16. Lopez suffered a small hamstring muscle tear in his right leg, which the team’s medical staff hopes will heal in time for the second half of the Top 16.

Lopez has been a valuable member of Madrid’s backcourt rotation, averaging 5.9 points and 2.8 assists in just over 20 minutes per game. This is his fifth season with Madrid, during which he has helped the club win the ULEB Cup and one Spanish League championship.

A Blow for Barcelona; Lakovic out for 6-8 weeks
Source: The Hoop Blog

As Regal FC Barcelona announced Tuesday, point guard Jaka Lakovic(1.88-PG/SG) will be sidelined from six to eight weeks. After medical tests, it was determined that he will have to undergo nose surgery in the days to come, and that will cause him to miss the rest of the Top 16.

This season, Lakovic has played 9 games so far with Barcelona in the Euroleague averaging 7.8 points and 2.7 assists in almost 20 minutes of play each night. This situation will leave Barcelona with Andre Barrett as only point guard for the next games, even though Top 16 teams will be able to sign new players two days before the start of the Top 16 Week 4.
