View Full Version : Heat Placing Marion On The Block?

An NBA source claims that the Heat have placed forward Shawn Marion on the block as they struggle out of the gate.

Marion, who is making $17.8 million in the final year of his contract, was rumored to be a trading chip this offseason.

There's bound to be some suitors for that expiring contract...its just a matter of if what the Heat can get in return is worth the trade...which I am pretty sure is not as much as it used to be, but the Heat aren't going to give up marion cheap.

Gives Heat low post presence they need. Gives Utah financial flexibilities.

A bit towards the Heat favor though.

I'd love to see Marion in a Raps uniform, and they are actaully concievable as a trading partner as he is the type of player we are looking for and B.C. has ties with Marion. Although I can't see how we could fit the salary without going over the luxury cap. Just out of curiousity, what do you think would be a fair trade?

so you trade hinrich, who isn't a bad player by any means, and has more value than getting an expiring contract, for nothing. I don't see pax doing that.

I think Miami should keep him, that expiring is good for a run at Boozer if he opts out.

But if he were to be traded for a Center I could see either Curry,Brad Miller, or Kaman being looked at.

Knicks get
S. Marion

Heat get
S. Marbury
E. Curry

I know the Heat fans are going to bash me for saying this but, it would give them a big bodied center and, a point guard that still can ball and, would probably be so happy that he's gotten out of New York that it could rejuvenate his career. You get 2 help at 2 positions that you need help at, both guys could end up being steals if they play good, and you get them for a guy who's going to be a fre agent in the summer. This way at least you get something for Marion instead of letting him walk away this summer for nothing. There's no way your going to get anything even close to equal value for Marion anyways. Take a chance. It could be rewarding.

Nobody is saying Hinrich is a bad player, people are just saying there's more value in them trading Hinrich for an expiring, then there is in keeping him. And those people are right. When Hinrich returns from his injury, the Bulls would have 5 guards on the roster. (Rose, Hinrich, Hughes, Gordon, Thabo, and Lindsey Hunter) Outside of Hunter, all of the guards that I listed are talented enough to play 30+ minutes for teams in the NBA.

Seems like a weird time to trade him, but perhaps I'm missing something. His expiring deal is valuable to the Heat because they need to give Wade an extension or possibly re-sign him in a couple years.

Why trade him? Let him expire, then sign 2 players next summer with that money combined with the mid level. Get a center, and a vet point guard. Chalmers will be a player, but you always need depth there. A shooter wouldn't hurt either. Pry Reddick away from Orlando, they will give him away. He would be good on a team with Wade, who commands so much attention. Sign Boozer away from Utah, and sign Mihm from LA, he is okay, but never plays. You can't get a good center easy. Nobody gives them up. Get an adequate one, and move on. Move Beasley to the 3, and you have a team that can compete. Imagine Chalmers, Quinn, Reddick, and Haslem off the bench. Just a thought from a non Heat fan

2 trades I could see for Miami:

Miami trades Marion to Utah for Okur and Matt Harpring
Miami does it to get a center and more experience
Utah does it to add a perimeter defender and get more financial flexibility after the season

or

3 way trade: Heat get Curry & Okur, Utah gets Malik Rose & David Lee, Knicks get Marion
Heat get 2 different centers to compliment Wade, Chalmers, Beasley and Haslem
Jazz get future financial relief and David Lee
Knicks get Marion for D'Antoni and future financial relief.

Well Swift is more of a PF and Williams is more of a project/backup. It works for me. Then we draft a g/f in the 2nd round and:

Chalmers/Livingston/Quinn/Banks
Wade/Cook/Drafted project g/f
Jones/Wright/Diawara(hopefully cut)
Haslem/Beasley/Swift
Camby/Williams/Swift

Maybe Beasley takes over for Haslem and maybe Livingston takes over for Chalmers after a while but that's good for now and for the future. I like it.

Come the end of the season Marion will still be on the heats roster, the way its going Miami will be in the 6-8 spot in the playoffs and Marion will be on the team come playoff time (unless a deal to good to pass on comes up, but thats not brad miller). Dont know about next year but I wish they could develop Beasley into playing the 3 spot, and keep Haslem at the 4. And alot of Heat fans want to trade Haslem and that couldnt be more of a wrong move.

the Heat won't trade Marion for Diaw so everyone please STOP mentioning his name. First, he's not the answer at C the Heat are looking for. Heck I rather keep Haslem at center than Diaw since they are about the same size but Haslem is better defender and rebounder. Second, his fat contract (which doesn't expire soon enough) would keep the Heat away from 2010 free agency. That said, I think Camby meets every Heat's need. Don't know why Riley still hasn't made a phone call

I don't see the Heat making that move. They have Marion who's a VERY valuable expiring contract, and he's still a decent player, so I'm sure the Heat wouldn't be in a hurry to deal him. After all, the money coming off the books from Marion, could go a long way in helping them re-sign Wade before the start of '10.

If the heat do trade Marion it would only be for a Center, and theres not that many Centers out there to trade for. JO isnt going anywhere and maybe one of the Clippers centers but I just do see that happening.....

Im curious to see what Marions contract next year will look like, hes going to get a contract from someone, and I am just curious to see what kind of money its going to be.
