so here are the standing right now:

1. LA Lakers --
2. Phoenix 2.5
3. Denver 3.0
4. Houston 3.5
5. Utah 3.5
6. Portland 3.5
7. New Orleans 4.0
8. San Antonio 4.5
9. Dallas 5.5
10. Golden State 8.0
11. Sacramento 9.0
12. Memphis 9.0
13. Minnesota 9.0
14. LA Clippers 11.0
15. Oklahoma City 12.5

its pretty obvious that theres 9 teams at the top who are playoff spot contenders so which one of these 9 teams is gonna miss the playoffs this year? personally, i think its gonna be portland or denver... phoenix, dallas and spurs are all veteran teams for who this may be the last year to do something and they all know how to get it done while the hornets, jazz, rockets and lakers just seem way too talented to not make the playoffs this year barring major injuries... i just think that portland is one year away still and that denver is gonna come back to earth soon...

I was actually contemplating the thought this morning.

I think it could be anyone but the Lakers. Lots of competition in those teams. Portland is the youngest, but I don't see them falling off. Denver has played some great ball with their new lineup. Dallas is the team out now, but it is hard to rule them out. Injuries could be a huge factor. Based on that, I would say that the deeper teams stand a better chance of being in the playoffs at the end, but it is hard to predict this early in the season.

Those same teams that are in now would be in later. The seeding will be different but I see those same teams getting in

All those teams. Maybe Golden State gets in, but right now, that is pretty much what I expect the playoffs to be.

I think Portland is in. Portland is way above expectation by being 10-6 considering they've had 10 road games to 6 home games.

Dallas is probably out. Nowitski and Kidd are veterans who have been in the playoffs their whole careers and don't consider making the playoffs an accomplishment anymore. At the end of the season when it's close, I'm not sure that either player will put in 100% just for the chance to lose to the Lakers in round 1.

Portland would be the most realistic to count out....assuming every other team stays healthy....but Rockets are a Yao injury away, Mavs a Dirk injury away, Lakers a Kobe injury away ect.....from being possibly out....
