View Full Version : Maggette Next Traded?

In case you're wondering why the Golden State Warriors are stockpiling swing players (and why wouldn't you be wondering?) get ready for the next major move. The Warriors didn't exactly have Corey Maggette on their short list when they approached free agency 2008, but when the time came for them to use their cash he was simply the best name left.

The thinking was that they could keep him until December 15th, when he will be eligible to be traded, and make a better move at that time. Given that the Warriors recently locked up Stephen Jackson long-term, which they weren't sure they'd be able to do, it seems more and more likely that Maggette will be the one who gets the Warriors the point guard they need.

So who will it be?

One possiblity might be the Dallas Mavericks' Jason Terry. The Clippers were close to making a Maggette-for-Terry swap last summer, but it was killed by ownership. Terry, of course, is intimately familiar with the Don Nelson system, and is among the best scoring point guards in the league. The Mavericks would hate to give up Jet, but they desperately need a two who can create his own shot. Maggette would immediately start and improve the starting lineup drastically.

The Mavericks could also swap Jerry Stackhouse for Maggette straight up. Stackhouse was a favorite of Nellie's, as well, and represents not only a potential ending contract but also a person who could move to the coaching staff next season. That was the long-term plan in Dallas when Nellie was the coach there.

It may seem to be a stretch that the Warriors and Mavericks get anything done. The bad blood between Mark Cuban and Nellie has been well-documented, but perhaps Donnie Nelson, GM of Mavericks, could help smooth things over if it means making a deal that drastically helps both teams.

I actually like Maggette. He is 3rd in free throw attempts over the past 3 years, and is a high volume scorer when given minutes. I think he may be the odd man out however. But I like his game.

Why? He's played well for us, if we're gonna trade him at least do it for a true PG or PF, not another hybrid.

Interesting article. I know Don Nelson likes small ball, but I think he would be crazy to get another guard in Terry or Stackhouse.

Mavs should definitely do that deal.

If the Warriors will give him up for Terry, the Mavs would be ludicrous not to do it. Stackhouse is starting at 2, Maggette is a monster upgrade over him

Maggette- 5 years, $50 million
Terry- 4 years, $40 million

Maggette is a better player. That would not be a bad deal. When you add draft picks, and filling out the roster, they have minimal room for 2010, unless they kick in their team option and let Josh Howard walk for nothing. And I think that if the Mavs are still hovering at .500 midseason, they need to trade Dirk.

What do the Warrriors not understand... YOU NEED SIZE TO WIN IN THE PLAYOFFS.

Sure they're fun to watch but they're NEVER going to go anywhere, as currently assembled.

If I was Dallas I'd do it in a heartbeat. Jet likes shooting the ball while Corey can drive and finish or get to the line at will (well sorta xD)

why would dallas want maggette? They have Josh Howard who is alot better. They need a SG or C not another SF.

Also if GSW trade him it will be for a PF

The Mavs should easily do this deal for Stackhouse for Maggette.

A lineup of

Kidd
Maggette/Terry
Howard
Dirk
Diop/Dampier

Would make some serious noise.

uhhhh I don't know if you watch the Mavs, but stack isn't even playing, much less starting. I'd trade for Maggette, but probably wouldn't give up Terry. I think a guy like Bass would be appealing to GS

Guys, GS is not going to take Jerry Stackhouse alone for Maggette. Quit being so excited over some hoopsworld article. Now if you traded them Bass, Stack and possibly another expiring, they might listen, and so should Dallas. Bass isn't what everyone made him out to be last year, and Singleton or Williams can replace him easily.

Whomever wrote this is an idiot. Why the hell would the Warriors want another guard???? They'll have Ellis, Crawford, Jackson and AB. Corey could be traded for a decent low post banger who can board and score and a draft pick or a back up PG.

dude why would you trade dirk, basketball is a team game you can't put all the blame on dirk for there bad start, and also that Jason kidd trade was horible, dude look at devin haris now, straight ballin. Also GS isn't going to trade Maggette for Jerry stackhouse come on, the only way i would do that is to free up cap space, also the Mav's still think they can win with the players they have.

dirk is by far one of the softest players in the nba. he is a joke of a pf, i think my little sister could push him around in the post.

legendkillerv2
11-25-2008, 02:48 PM
well, yea but, the dude went to the finals just 2 years ago, come on give him some slack, they basically had the same team for the past 3 years. i think they need to make some changes, and getting maggette would help

you guys are haters, you guys have that what did you do for me lately mentality. i don't like the Mavs but wow trade dirk, you might as well start rebuilding. Trade Kid trade dirk trade howard.

I watched 2 games, Stack started, but didn't play much. Point is, Howard and Dirk are the only guys better. I would trade Terry for him for sure.
