Yes or No?

I voted yes because he does all the things a Super Star should do. I think he would get more pub if the Hawks were not a joke for so long or if he was on a team in a big market, Like Chi, LA (Lakers not Clips) NY, or BoI think he wold get more pub if PHX would have kept him with Amare.

I voted yes. Hes ballin this year. I personally have a pretty narrow view of what a superstar is, and he wouldn't fit into that. But I think in terms of what a superstar is n the NBA today, I'd put him up there yes.

He doesn't have the ego/additude of a superstar but he is one.

no, he is a star player, but media is what turns you into Super....sadly

He's a superstar in the sense that he scores at clutch moment and scores often through a game. Thats usually what we consider a superstar these days.

superstar? no. great player NO DOUBT.

ill never forgive the GM who traded him and a 1st round pick for rodney rogers and tony delk! wat a ripoff.

JJ is a great scorer? but superstar? not yet.

This question will be better answered once the season ends. This is the year where we will determine if he's an All-Star player or not. How far can he take his team? Will he be a starter in the All-Star game?

He is not too far away from becoming a super-star, he is not there yet but I think he certainly will be very soon.

yes i think hes a superstar. he does everything a superstar player for that position does. the only difference really is the the media doesnt hype him up

Yes or No?

No, there are certain guys I consider superstars in the league. Joe Johnson is a terrific player and is an all-star caliber player.

Superstars: Kobe, Wade, Lebron, Chris Paul, Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett, Allen Iverson, Steve Nash, T-Mac, D. Howard, Amare, D. Williams, Chris Bosh

Yes. He's proved he can lead a team. He's their main threat that teams make a concerted effort to defend and he still gets his and makes teammates better. I say hell yeah!

Maybe if Joe Johnson legally changed his last name to Joe Superstar.. There would be no denying that he is in fact, a Superstar. What? :hide:

he's a super star... but no many people no about him... SUCKS!! cuz this guy is the real deal....

Depends on your definition of superstar. JJ is a stud and one of the best wings in the game but he's not an MVP candidate or in the same conversation with the top 5-10 players in the league. I voted yes but I wouldn't begrudge anyone who voted no because a lot of folks see "Superstars" as only the S-class elite in the league.

11-19-2008, 06:49 PM
No, he has the talent of a lower tier superstar, but he doesnt have the media attention nor get the respect of a superstar. To me a superstar has all the media hype, commercials, etc and the game is on their shoulders. JJ probably wont ever get that respect. Plus, how many Hawks games are shown??? Brandon Roy is closer to being a superstar IMO than JJ althought JJ is better

That's why I think he isn't a superstar yet. But he can play like one. Everyone knows LeBron, Kobe, and so on.

Yes or No?

No way. He is an allstar though. You need to finish top 10 at least in MVP voting before you are a superstar.

BoSelecta!!!

No, hes a all-star tho. I cant believe i picked JRich over him in my fantasy league draft. wtf was i thinking!!!

he's on the brink of being a superstar....mayb if the hawks do something in the playoffs n he carries them.....the public veiw is the only thing stopping him from bein a superstar cuz he is underrated

11-20-2008, 01:53 PM
he to me is by far the most underrated player in the nba. and is easily to me a top 10 player. i think he is a superstar.

MassoDio
11-20-2008, 02:18 PM
He has the game and the stats of a superstar, but not the hype or pub. He is severley underrated. Go look at his numbers compared to some of those other wing players considered superstars. Very similar. He just doesn't get the star treatment or publicity from the media.

Lakers4ItAll

You mean like last year when they took the Celtics to 7 games as a 8th seed??

For his career no, but hes played like one so far this year.

11-20-2008, 06:36 PM
His team needs postseason success just a bit, even if its a round or so. But I love the guy, and think he is a star. Good point on Hawks being nationally televised, you need the NBA package to watch him. Which I have thank god so I can watch him and Bosh

NYMetros
11-20-2008, 06:38 PM
I would say no. The only players in the NBA that I consider to be superstars are Kobe, Lebron, Duncan, Wade, Howard, and CP3.

hes a superstar, and hes clutch as hell.

Chronz
11-20-2008, 07:44 PM
You guys keep talking about the team but its him who needs to do more. What hes doing right now is a fine example of him at the top of his game, if he can hold it down like hes doing now then hes finally at stardom status IMO. He just wont be able to sustain this level of play, he'll get burnt out eventually like he did last year. Josh Smith cant come back soon enough

Oh btw... about your sig... Wade did have a monster game that night. However, I think the guy you quoted was referring to Kobe's 81 point game... yea, only one other player had a game like that in his career, and THAT was more by design than necessity.

i voted no because i look at the lebrns and kobes and d wades as superstars who start for the all star teams, joe an all star? soon maybe very soon but i put him with ginobilis, ben gordon, al jeffersons of the leaugue for now, ya digg?

tell me what u guys think about this guy, me and my frend was having a talk and i rekon his in his prime, what you guys think?

He is probably one of the best skilled guys in the league all round, scoring, defense, rebounding, passing, etc.

He however often goes into slumps for 3-4 games and sometimes blows up for 5-10 games in a row.

He wont be a Hall of Famer but he will be a great fantasy player for the numbers he puts up.

Put him on my team any day.

He's like a paul pierce with better ballhandling skills and better shooting.

He is a really underrated basketball player. Can really take over at anytime and i bet phoenix is really regretting that hes gone now. 1 of a kind player

Manu isnt considered a superstar, and IMO is better, so thats why I dont think JJ is.

Define superstar. He's not on the level on Kobe, Wade, LeBron, Paul but he's on the next tier.

Joe Johnson is awesome, he is just great, but superstar status is being used way too liberally. In my opinion, there are only a small handful of superstars in the league. People that are totally recognizable, even to non-fans. Players who are regularly reported on, and can be recognized by one name (last criteria is tough for Joe Johnson because those are such common names).

Superstars in the league today would be;

Kobe
LeBron
Shaq (still, residual effect)
Yao
AI
KG

This is just my opinion, I'd take Yao off, but he's got a billion supporters, and there might be a few others who are deserving, but it's my list. And while Tim Duncan should be on the list, he's just too quite and not in the lime light.

Manu isnt considered a superstar, and IMO is better, so thats why I dont think JJ is.

Manu better then JJ? :eyebrow:

Manu's best season was last year were he average 19pph 4.5 rpg 4.5 apg decent but hardly even allstar.

JJ's best season: 25ppg, 4apg,4.5rpg.

Joe Johnson is way better then Manu...

I voted yes he is carrying that team on his shoulders and is 1 of the toughest guys in the league to guard at 6,7 strong upperbody quick not blazing but quick and a great shot i consider him a top15-8 player in the league.

like people said before me, the label "superstar" is given by the media, and Joe Johnson doesn't get enough coverage or attention. he's playing like a superstar this season though, he's a good leader as well.

Yes, and Manu only played what..like maybe 30 mins a game? Coming off the bench? As the 3rd option?

Let Manu have the freedom of JJ, and play the same mins and he would put up those same stats, if not better. Manu is a better defender as well.

Dont get me wrong, I love JJ's game and think hes an absolute stud, I just think Manu is a bit better.
