derrick rose is the best at this point in the season, IMO. He is really hard to guard right now. If he develops a consistent jump shot (which he has shown the last few games) then watch out

Anthony Morrow is the undrafted rookie form the golden state warriors. he is shooting 70 percent from the field!. he shot 75 percent in summer league. right now he is the most efficient rookie on ESPN's list. check him out when you get a chance.

he's my pick for rookie of the year.

The number one pick has won it twice this decade and one was a tie (Stevie & Brand) but Mike Miller, Pau Gasol, Amare, Okafor, Paul, Roy, and Durant were not drafted number one....Lebron was the only other number one to win....

That game was ridiculous. Worst game that I can remember since Paxson's been GM.

I'm actually surprised Oden only has 3 votes. He should put up some monster stats, his team is stacked... it'll be very easy for him to just play the role he needs to play this rookie season.

Rose looked tired that game. LA-Portland is over a 1000miles and the bulls were still in a central Timezone so it felt even later. That cant be easy especially sense Rose was playing hard the entire game. That cant be easy at all on a rookie.

Rose scored 23 2nd half points and literally won the game for us tonight. He then got kneed in the balls by Maggette and had to come out.

Rose is phenomenal, but he's in a situation where the team depends entirely too heavily on him. That kind of pressure is hard for a rook mentally and physically.....maybe some of the other Bulls will step up. At least Mayo is not in that situation so my prediction is Mayo by the end of the season.

Why Mayo? Cause he's averaging like 2 points more per game with less assists and I think less rebounds? Also, Rose plays the point and like you said, the team depends on him. He has to lead as a rookie, if anything you made the case for Rose. People can look at the stats all they want but basketball is still a game that depends very heavily on the little things, and Rose does all the little things and then some. He's getting more comfortable every game, by the end of the season he's going to show everyone why he was the number one pick. We haven't even seen anything yet. Mayo's good, I like him a lot, but he's not quite the game changer like Rose is.

LOL. Is this a serious question? Unless he suffers a serious injury, Derrick Rose is the only correct answer. It should like something like this:

Rose - 100%
Everybody else - 0%

Not one rookie in the league has been anywhere near as impressive as Rose. This is why I found it hilarious when certain uneducated people were saying the Bulls should have drafted Beasley over Rose. At the time, I laughed really hard and just chose to ignore them. Now I laugh so hard that I usually fall out of my chair and sometimes even cry. Derrick Rose is ALREADY the best player of the 2008 rookie class - and he isn't even close to reaching 1/4 of his full potential. Rose will be better than Paul, Deron, Kidd, Marbury, Iverson, and any other PG you thought was impressive when you saw him. You thought those guys were great? You've seen nothing yet. Derrick Rose is a few years away from becoming the best PG in the entire league.

ROY = Rose

Nobody else is even close.

For those of you voting for Morrow am wondering wtf are you thinking

Mayo is a better shooter and scorer plus he atleast plays some defence and rebounds

Rose nuph said he is a beast Rebounding, Passing, SCORING and top it off with 50% on the field

Oden soon but when he is out there he is looking good.

Maybe Morrow over Oden but right now it is a 2man race with Oden having a chance if he can stay out of foul trouble.

theres a lot of good rookies this year, but the ones that stand out so far to me is
derrick rose
morrow (i live in the west)
brook lopez has been good when i watched him, but i dont know
westbrook just came out of nowhere and he's starting, he has a better opportunity than some players because he's on a team that isn't very good, therefore, he gets more playing time - not to take away from how good he is.
greg oden, i see potential, but not this year, plus he is 3rd or 4th best player on that team, behind roy, aldridge and maybe someone else
mcgee has been good at time, but he's not up to rose, beasley, oden status
and beasley - hes good, but in my opinion, rose is better - it's hard to judge because they play different positions

i voted derrick rose because he can get to the basket, pass, and shoot pretty good
but in a few years, we look back and think "who's the best '08-'09 pick (plus oden)?" then it might be oden.

My point,KG2The Bulls, is that he may get worn down physically by the game depending on him so much, and be injured! When you have to be the one every night, don't you think a 19-20 years old still growing body MIGHT be more at risk???

HOMER!!!!^^^^ J/K....I would have voted for Robin Lopez, but he has seen nothing but Terry Porters *** all season long. He is lucky to get 10 minutes a night. I mean he was the 15th overall pick, and he keeps the bench warm. What the hell was the point in drafting him? I thought he would get 15-20 mins behind shaq, but Lou Amundson has gotten more PT then him...haha...anyways I say Mayo for ROY. He has been very amazing this year in his rookie year, D-Rose is also kicking some *** too, but its a toss up between the two, but I gotta go with Mayo on this one.

Draco

Not looking likely for the Bease.

Rosen on the Heat/Rocket game.

Michael Beasley is supposed to be another luminous star in the making. He showed incredible elevation, a quick first step, and fairly good activity on offense. But there are some serious shortcomings in his game:

He has no power.
His defense is atrocious, particularly his baseline rotations.
His jumper is erratic — 3-for-10 with several bad misses.
He either shot or drove — twice left and once right — all the way to the hole, but never attempted any kind of pull-and-shoot action.
When he was isolated on a wing, he failed to meet the incoming pass under heavy defensive pressure (by Chuck Hayes) and wound up with a turnover.
He was totally invisible in the second half, particularly when the game was up for grabs.

But he's a young'un and he'll either learn how to be tough and be more aware, or he won't. Now, and in the foreseeable future, Beasley is Miami's second-most important player.

OJ Mayo is taking rookie of the year - no question about it-. Hes the next MJ and is living up to the hype so haters can suck my dick. Hes had pressure on him since grade 7 and for him to stay strong and be focused for that long just speaks volume about this guys character. D-Rose is fortunate to be on a team with alot of weapons but I still think that he wont win it because unless the Bulls trade Hinrich, hinrich will sooner or later play better then him

Umm WOW. Your Joking right?:eyebrow: Alot of weapons he is the bulls only weapon while MEMphis has Gasol, Gay, and a Mayo core. Your post is sad really sad. The entire 2nd half is u talking trash you dont no and trying to hate the unhatable. Hinrich play better the Rose...:speechless: Hinrich is out til feburary so you obviously dont no much about the bulls that alone tells me that you have never seen Rose play and are talking out of your *** because Rose has been starting and is playing like a lights out stud he is the bulls weapon you were talking about. Ask just about any fan of the NBA who has seen Rose play other then in the Portland game and they will tell you the same thing. Rose has had his Middle School games on TV and Mayo wasnt highly recruited so i dont know were you got the whole pressure sense 7th grade thing but your obviously lieing. Next MJ seriously? first no1 in a solid state of mind would have said he is going to be the next MJ i did here some Kobes but i really doubt that. You are both a hater, a lier and not a very intelligent basketball fan. (if you even are) Dont post on things you have no knowledge of and especially if you have never seen the guy play in the NBA it isnt a fluke that Rose is ahead by alot in the poll, he is playing great and would have way more apg if he had a inside presence or a guy who can shoot consistently. (Gordon is a scorer but very inconsistent) Really your comment speaks volume of your intelligence and your understanding and knowledge of the game. It is a Rose and Mayo race so far but Rose is ahead by a bit and will get ROY.

And am going to emphasize again DON'T talk about the bulls if you have no idea what your talking about Hinrich better then Rose :laugh::laugh:

Tomorrow will be a great test for Rose and if he passes it he will definatly be the most likely pick. If he can still drive to the lane at will and finish against prehaps 1 of the greatest all time defensive big man alltime who is still a top 3 then he will be truelly impressive. He hasnt gone up to a defensive power like Duncan yet so this will be interesting to see i hope he does well but it will be touph and if he passes it (get 18+points) then i would say it will be pretty tough to go against him. Thou its going to be hard to watch Duncan drop 40 in the paint against the bulls am still excited about how rose will do.

Thou its going to be hard to watch Duncan drop 40 in the paint against the bulls am still excited about how rose will do.

true...very true as test for rose BUT

lets not forget when the bulls played the celtics. The reason I bring this up is because the bulls looked like an NBDL team against the celtics. However, DROSE was the only bright spot and drove hard [layups] on Garnett at least 3-4 times

I think to put it simply, Rose is just better. He scores less because he distributes more, and is a better leader than Mayo. All the while, I believe he is better than Mayo offensively because he can get to the basket whenever he wants. He has also become versatile by nailing that 22 footer every time. He is unstoppable, and comes though in the clutch for us.

In seven games as a starter, he is averaging 15.7 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 blocks per game. He is shooting .554 from the floor and 75% from the line. His highest game score of the season (27.6) is higher than anything Rose or Mayo has put out yet this season.

I think it's a three way battle between Micheal Beasley, Derrick Rose and OJ Mayo.

1) Derrick Rose - I say he is in the lead because he is playing like an elite PG in this league already, at the age of 20, 18.4PPG, 4.1 RPG and 5.8 PPG in 36 minutes is an amazing statline. Plus he looks great on the floor.

2) O.J. Mayo - best scorer to come out of this draft. Also probably the flashiest player. Putting up 22 points a game in your rookie year is not an easy feat. Will be one of the best shooting guards in the league down the road.

Micheal Beasley - I really don't like his game, but I need to give him a shout and he could really tear it up down the stretch if the Heat trade Marion which would then make him their clear cut second option.

Should be interesting to see how these players play down the stretch. Plus this is a very deep rookie field, so I wouldn't be surprised to see a darkhorse like Rudy Fernandez compete later on as well. Plus if Oden gets healthy and starts playing major minutes, he WILL also compete. it is very difficult to tell at this time.

I'm not a fan of Beasley, they guy is cocky, selfish and has no clue what defense is. His knack of stopping the offensive flow by going one on one makes me cringe. He also said he was trying to become league MVP...lol...he has alot of maturing to do. He needs to do the little hings in order to be great, and not just focus on scoring the basketball.

I like Mayo, I used to think he was overhyped...but so far that hype has been just...the guy has a remarkable stroke and he will be one of the premier scorers in the league. But he needs to work on his all round game.

Rose is already a top PG in the league and has a great attitude. He is getting it done on a Bulls team without a low post threat. I like how he knows when to score and when to distribute...he is equally dangerous as a scoring point guard and as a passing point guard. He also has the creativity and toughness to be the man on his team. Definately one of the better stories this season.

Cheeks...joined the long chorus of opponents who praised Rose at every stop of the seven-game trip.

"For a rookie, he has great command of his team," Cheeks said. "That's what stands out to me. Rarely do you see rookies have that command.

"He seems to have knowledge of the game, too — when to push it, when to pass, when to pull up for the jumper."

I think when it's all said and done Rose will end up with it. I think Rose, Mayo, Oden, and Beasley's stats will all go up by the end of the season making it an interesting run down the strech. Ultimately, it will come down to Rose and Mayo like it is now, but if Rose continues to play with this kind of passion and effectiveness, then he should deserve it. I've seen Mayo play live. He's good, but he sure does have to put up a lot of shots to get the points that he does. To me he seems like he's after the Kobe Bryant stardom, where Rose looks like he wants to just win.

I don't think anybody should be afraid of the Bulls, even IF everything starts clicking. They have Rose playing PG for them (and he's spectacular) but outside of that, there isn't that much talent on the roster. Ben Gordon is a terrific player to have, IF he's making shots. When he's not, there isn't a single thing he could do to help out the team. Hinrich is a solid player for them, but he's going to be out until the AS break. And the thing that really kills the Bulls (this is well documented) is they have nothing in the post. And you won't win ANYTHING in the NBA, without some type of low post scoring.

This is the best rookie crop since 2003. Rose has been fantastic...I love this guys game. He just looks so poised and in control for a young player. He doesn't seem rattled and he seems to downplay even his most spectacular performances with a stone face.

Mayo has suprised me alot too...I admit I wasn't a fan of his at first. I though he was very overhyped. But it looks like he is the real deal. As a scorer he has been exceeding expectations...and you have a sense he can become a great allround player some day.

Rudy Gay had a bad start to the season but he still is the better player, Gay is starting to get back on track as of late and Grizzles look better when Mayo is on bench and they have Gay out there with other starters/ bench players.

It's hard to go off 2 games that I have seen Mayo the entire game not just 5-10 minutes of a game when am flipping during commercials but.... Mayo is 1 of the worst defenders I have seen, AI bad... He got stuck under the screen every time and always went under it and gave Ben open look after open look... Ben had scored 18 in the 2nd alone with a little over 4 minutes left when he picked up his 3rd foul. If he hadn't he probably could have gotten close to 30.

The rest of the game he was in foul trouble and finished with 26 points in 28minutes. Larry scored all 12 of his points with Mayo on him for about 5minutes of the 3rd.

Am sure he is a better defender then what I saw but unless he is WAYYY better he is still a really bad defender...

Rose with Mayo coming in second.

If Mayo could hold on to the ball a bit better this could end up really close.

DJ Augustin: 13.5 PPG, 4.7 APG, .6 SPG, .423 3%
Derrick Rose: 17.5 PPG, 6.3 APG, 1 SPG, .333 3%

How is Augustin not getting more recognition? His numbers are just barely worse than Rose.

Do you know how many coaches and players give rose praise every game he plays. Theres a lot of people on his bandwagon. When i see oj mayo play, i see a ball hog. Him and rudy gay always want the ball in there hands and its ridiculous to watch em play.

How is Mayo a ballhog? He is a shooting Guard. He job is to shoot. And he is shooting 47% from the field and 40% from 3. And is averaging 20 ppg. And he is only shooting 1 shot less than Rose per game. And plus who else on the Grizz do you want shooting the ball? We have no quality guards that come off the bench and neither one of our pg's can shoot straight.

Until about 2 weeks ago I was sure that Rose had it in the bag. But now I'm leaning towards Mayo. He has proved to be a prolific scorer.

Not to mention he kicked Rose's *** head to head. But we'll sweep that under the rug for the homer Bulls fans.

I have to go with Derrick Rose. I also think he is playing like at an All-Star level. Great young player.

i dont get y everyone is on roses band wagon, he is good n all but CLEARLY, Oj is outplaying him,

if Oj majo dosnt get rookie of the year, this league is a joke, he is clearly the best rookie out right now n im sure the bulls wished they drafted him hahah

Well for one the Bulls have a better record than the Grizzlies because they have the young leader and better player in Rose rather than Mayo. The Bulls are extremely happy with Rose and he fit the spot we needed and has done beyond what is asked. Mayo just shoots and doesnt play as a team. Points don`t measure up how good a player is and thats all Mayo has. Rose for ROY!

To give you guys an idea of how much Beasley is chucking, consider this. His usage% of 28% is the 12th highest rate in Rookie HISTORY. Ben Gordon, Mark Aguirre, MJ, Big Dog, Harper, AI, Darrell Griffith, Jay Vincent, Melo, LeBron, Durant are the only ones that rank above him but all are within a percentage point of each other. Granted those guys played heavy minutes, most of them had a far larger role on the offense all things considered but it does give you an idea of how aggressive this kid has been when on the floor.

Ball hogging is only one part of the equation, how efficient you are is the other. Taking out all the rooks that were more efficient offensively than Beasley you get a more selective group. Of players that accounted for atleast 27% of their teams possessions, Beasley is the 2nd least efficient. Behind only Darrell Griffith, he played 35 minutes a night on a 28 win jazz team, boasting a 20PPG average.

Only 2 other players make the list for such cancerous play, Jim Jackson and Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf, both played on ****** teams and dragged down their teams offenses. Basically what Im sayin is, Beasley is playing bad on a decent team, whereas Mayo and Rose are playing great on pretty sorry teams, two are bringing their teams up, the other drags it down. So dont put them on the same levels, the whole number 1 option thing is totally false.
