i'd think if the cubs were the only team left as a serious contender and they just locked up dempster, then there's a reasonable chance that he isn't traded at all. of course, we'll see up until the winter meetings end.

I don't think he gets traded any time soon. The longer the Padres drag this out and the more pitchers get signed the more teams will get desperate to get him. If I were the Padres I would hold onto him till around the 09 deadline.

lol, I think you should have split up your % more.. I would have said like 10% but voted 0% instead since 1-49% is waaay to vague.

I doubt he gets traded. The Padres have scared everyone away except for the Cubs and even then they said they'll need a couple more teams in the trade to make it happen. So basically, it won't happen. The Cubs don't have the talent to spread around to all of those teams to make things happen.

Gut feeling, the Braves aren't completely out yet. I think he still lands in ATL.

He'll end up with an AL team by the way it looks like.

It might not happen too soon, but it'll happen. The Padres need it to happen if they hope to get any better in the next 3 years. By Aug 1, 2009 Jake Peavy will don a uniform that does not say Padres on the front. And i'll be glad to see him out of the NLW, too.

I've thought for a while that the Braves will still land him. I think it's all posturing if they're saying they're out of it.

Didn't ownership tell Towers that the payroll needs to get down to about 40mil next year? peavy's 18 or so mil off the books is a must

Peavy's big money doesn't kick in until 2010. He's making under $10 million in 2009.

The more "CC's" and "Burnett's" get signed, the more that Peavy will look at additional teams for trade opportunities....so, if this drags out more perhaps he will add the Phils as a suitor at some point? ih? pipe dream, but I would love to see him pitching our 2nd game (hell, maybe even the first game).....

I would say that Peavys no trade clause screws up anyones theory that the longer they wait the more teams become players. Peavys list of teams he would wave for was like 4 or 5, and the Yankees who are not going to need pitching were one of those teams. The Braves will have to move Escobar to get him which makes the Braves a little better than the Padres unless they spend major money on some FAs. Peavy wants to compete and he is forcing his way out the door. He is getting traded and it will be to a team that is ready to win right now.

IMO 2 reasons why he hasn't been traded yet.

1) you have to be able to sell tickets, that's a guy you pay to watch pitch.

2)SD is probally hopeing that some1 gets hurt so that they could rape a team in a trade.

He might not get traded untill sping training tho, but he will be traded.

no, our owner jettisoning anything he can to fund his divorce settlement and our team president who's effectively run this franchise into the ground look dumb. kt hasn't done anything wrong in this scenario, as usual. moores and sandy are the d-bags.

IIRC Peavy has a raise in his contract for winning the Cy Young in 2007 that pushes it up to 11MM or so

most of it. the rest because of his hiring of sandy, which has proven to be an utter failure up to this point. yeah, the farm is better, but a chimp could have managed to raise our system from dead last to 12th when we don't sign any free agents so as to preserve our sandwich picks and when we get lucky with later picks but purposely don't take the best players available in the 1st round on account of not being willing to pay them decent signing bonuses.
