Well first off its a rim not a ring, and a 40 inch vertical for anyone is pretty damn good

Jesus kid. You better hope basketball works out for you. A 40 inch vertical is pretty f***in good for someone your age. It shows you have natural ability, and you should be able to increase your vertical a few more inches if you work at it.

for your age...tahts awsome. i highly doubt its a 40 inch vert, but idk your wingspan etc so i cant say it definately isnt. but to be 14 and touching 9.5 is decent. youre a freshman or in 8th grade? ima put it to you like this, im about 6' 6'1ish and can touch 10' 10". my vert is only about 34," dwyane wade's is 36-39," kobe's is only 38," and lebron's was 44. when you get to that 40" mark, you are talking about some of the greatest leapers of all time. the VC's, Steve Francise, AI(his vert was a 41 and he isnt really 6' from what most ppl say. but we all have seen his put back dunk where his hand was at least at the top of the square) not trying to crush your dreams, but keep working. train your behind off if you want to do anything, and definately develope a shot, handles, and court vision. practice your lay-ups and handles for both hands, and get a bank shot too. (bank shots are easily the most consistant shots if you know how to shoot them) thats just my advice tho. take it in stride and gl man

Oh that's kind of different.
You should judge your vertical sometime. set up a camera around roughly where you think your feet line up next to a tape measure and give it ten or fifteen jumps.

how do you figure to have a 40 in vertical? im 5"10' and can hang on the rim with 2 hands and on occasion throw it down and i dont think my vertical is anywhere close to 40 inches..

how did you come up with 40?

I'm 6' even and can dunk. I've never played organized basketball in my life and I'm not exactly a built guy.

Keep in mind to dunk on a 10' hoop you have to be able to reach like 10'5 to clear the ball over the rim.....

Do the wall test to calculate your vertical, don't have a friend measure how high you can jump while bending your knees. llol.

I would give that same advice. I would tell any NBA hopeful to work on defense and conditioning too, a lot.

Do the math. 40 inches is 3ft 4 inches. plus 5'8. that makes 9ft so unless your arm is 5 inches long. you should be able to dunk. so theres no way you have a 40 inch vertical.

Sorry to break it to you but you don't have a 40" vertical.

Your wingspan is usually right around your height.

If you can almost touch a 10' rim and you're 5'8" your vertical is probably around 28 inches.
