Amare or Howard?

Howard.

He is a beast, though Amare is too, you just won't get the same defensive effort some Amare.

Give Howard Steve Nash for a season and you'll see huge offensive numbers too.

What, no Bynum? :smoking:

Gotta go with Howard. Stoudamire tears it up on offense but doesn't play the kind of defense that Howard does. 10 blocks?

Amare, for the simple fact that he can hit that 15 footer consistanly

Howard, even if Amare is a better player.

Why then? well Howard does not have any suspiccious knee.

I'll go with Dwight, Amare is a PF IMO. Center's like Dwight don't come along often.

Howard and its comming from a Suns fan. I love Amare his a great player to watch amazing on offensive end but:

1. I take great center over a great power forward any day.
2. Defense beats offense for me
3. Im not sure if its a real argument but personaly i belive Dwight got more guts than Amare. Amare will jump from bench and get suspended, tell press how he will carry team on his shoulders and every one who needs it but at the very end nothing will come from all of that he wont be disapointing but he wont elevate in those key moments probobly Dwight wont as well but at least he will make sure oposing team players will have it much harder.

I'd have to go with Howard. You can't coach the raw talent that he has and he's got a higher ceiling than does Amare. They're my favorite big men to watch, I like Amare's game on the offensive end much better but ya gotta rebound and play D and Howard wins that battle easily and it only takes Howard like 10 shots to get 30pts b/c he shoots such a good %.

Howard, great centers are hard to come by, esspecially 1 that can play defense score 20 and get 10 boards. He is younger and more healthy.

i'd go dwight, no hesitation. both are great players, but dwight is one of a kind. next time amar'e gets 30 points 19 boards 10 blocks, come talk to me

Next time Dwight gets 49 points 11 rebounds 6 assists 5 steals and 2 blocks shooting 17 of 21 from the field and 15 of 15 from the line come talk to ME.

No, but seriously, I'd go with D-12. A center with that kind of presence on the defensive end doesn't come along too often. Plus, throw Howard with Nash and I do think his offensive stats go up a bit. Would have been an easier decision if Howard was a better free throw shooter.

Amare and it's not even close. Amare has some concerns with his knee, but he's been fine for awhile.

Both are bad defenders. Amare's offense is miles better.

Amare can win playoff games by himself, Dwight can't.

dwight's a bad defender?! are you crazy? he leads the league in rebounds and blocks, hes a very good defender.

amar'e's offense is miles better? no. more versatile? yes. if his offense "miles better," explain to me why dwight is averaging more points and shooting a higher percentage. i understand that amar'e has more moves and can go outside with it, but that only makes him more verstatile, not overall better offensively.

and if amar'e can win playoff games by himself, then why can't he win championships alongside former mvp's (shaq, nash), other champions (shaq), and other fillers (grant hill, barbosa, diaw, etc)

He leads the league after 7 games, lets not go crazy here. Last year he had 2.2 Blocks compared to Amare's 2.1. Dwight's rebound numbers are inflated because he plays with Rashard Lewis 5.5 RPG last year and Hedo 5.7 last year. Amare played with Marion 10 RPG with PHX last year/Shaq 10.6 with PHX last year and Hill 5 RPG last year.

Is Dwight a better rebounder than Amare yes, but the difference isn't as huge as the numbers say. Both constantly misread where the ball is going to carom and have to use their athleticism to grab rebounds.

However, this is missing the key point that numbers have little to do with how good a player is defensively. Dwight was terrible and confused in the olympics and had to be replaced by Chris Bosh for defensive reasons because he was lost on defense. Neither know how to play good defense, both just go after anything while costing their teams easy buckets at times and struggling to be able to play man to man defense. This would be like someone talking about how great AI's defense is because he had a lot of steals.

Again, 7 games, and you can't look at stats. Can you give Dwight the ball with 10 seconds left and be confident that he'll make the right move. No, he'll more than likely give the ball up, turn it over, get fouled and struggle at the line, or throw up a bad shot. That's why Orlando has to either do the lob play against to Spurs or give the ball up to Hedo Turkoglu to win the game. When the game is on the line you want a player who can create his own shot. Dwight is a bigger version of Marion and we all saw how well his career is going with no one to help him. The only move Dwight has developed is that lefty hook shot that is inconsistent. Dwight hasn't learned anything since Clifford Ray left, Amare is the one with the greater potential.

Phoenix has had some bad luck in the playoffs, Shaq is way past his prime right now, Nash is past his prime and D'Antoni was in over his head.
