View Full Version : Which generation is better? (so far)

New: In the league 5 years or less
PG: CP3 / Deron Williams / Calderon
SG: Wade / Roy / Durant
SF: Lebron / Melo / Josh Smith
PF: Bosh / West
C: Dwight / Al Jefferson

Middle: In between 5 and 10 years
PG: Parker / Davis
SG: Manu / Joe Johnson / Rip
SF: Marion / Prince / Caron / Artest
PF: Boozer / Brand / Odom
C: Yao / Amare / Pau (both Amare and Pau played C's and this generation really had no good C's aside from Yao)

Old: In the league 10+ years
PG: Kidd / Nash / Billups
SG: Kobe / AI / Ray Allen
SF: Pierce / Tmac
PF: Duncan / Garnett / Dirk
C: Shaq / Zo / JO

Two part question:
1) Which generation, if they were a team today, would win?
2) If the Old generation were all in their primes still, and the Middle and New Generation were both in their current form... who would win?

My choices would be:

1) The New generation would win TODAY... they have the best players in the league in 3/5 positions currently and the 2nd best SG in Wade... their depth isn't as great as the other two generations because many of them are still rooks, so it might be VERY close with the Old generation, who are all still VERY good today.

2) In their prime, the Old generation would beat down the rest, EASILY. Can you imagine Kidd, Kobe, Duncan, and Shaq playing together? Would be AMAZING.

The Old generation is composed of some of the "Greatest" players of all time!! It's easily the Old generation over any of the other groups mentioned.

middle is the weakest period. today could contend with the old, but old would win

the middle team is by far the weakest.

today, it's 50/50 between the old and the new.
in their primes, the old generation will win by about 15 points.

Considering that the old generation has about 7 players w/ rings. I would say that they are the better bunch.

The old generation. The new generation is much better than the middle generation in my eyes though.

It's an unequal comparison, the old generation obviously looks better because they already had much success in their years. And the new generation are players that have just reached their primes... it's unknown how good they will become.

The old generation. Obviously prime Shaq and Duncan are the best on their along with Kobe.

Old Generation is still the best team..todays best perimeter player and post player in Kobe and Duncan. Can't beat that.

I won't answer either b/c most here have.

I'll just leave it this way, even though time is a huge factor.

NEW - 1 championship 2 finals appearances
MIDDLE - 8 championships, 12 finals appearances
OLD - 16 championships, 25 finals appearances

Old

In their primes they would destroy the new group.

Even now, they'd probably beat them in a series.

Old gen is way better

We can't measure how good the old generation has been simply on championships... I mean, they have been in the league a LOT longer than the younger generations.

I think the new generation has more than a fair chance to match the old generation in accomplishments.

New would win now but old would've killed them in their primes.

old team, they have future hall of famers and four players that should be mention in the 50 greatest players list in Kobe,Shaq,KG and Tim Duncan.

If they are all in their primes then
1. Old
2. New
3. Middle

Old in their primes would destroy Middle and New

today the 5+ group would win with lebron , cp3, and superman.

but if the 10+ were in their prime they would beat those teams by alot. i would take the 10+ players all day any day if they were in there primes against the rest.

I would have to say the Old because they have the best player in the game, Kobe, and they have the most dominant big man ever, Shaq, plus many other great bigs and stud PGs in Nash n Kidd

New would deff be a fast athletic team tho

Not a fair comparison since the older ones we know where they reached and the ones in their prime now are building their legacy now, by the way as they entered the league PRETTY YOUNG Kobe or Garnett should be on the second List..

Best thing is compare the Older Ones with their inmediate ( and retired) before generation, the Paytons, Kemps, Robinsons, Mutombos, Larry Johnsons, Webbers etc etc.

Or to the generation just before that , the Stocktons, malones, Jordans.....errrrr I guess thats the Answer.....

if all in their primes, old by far. Duncan/Shaq are arguably the best players ever at their respective position.

The old generation. Obviously prime Shaq and Duncan are the best on their along with Kobe.

Agreed. Kobe and Shaq= Three-peat. Kobe/Shaq/Duncan= championship every single year. Not to mention the other greats on that team.

Old generation would destroy the new one

Deron Williams is the only average/good 3 point shooter in the new generation.
