I guess he hasn't been showcasing his skills offensively thus far. Really though, with what he does on offense and carrying that whole team, how could he have any energy for defense? Maybe Mo Williams will allow him to become a lockdown defender as well by taking some of the pressure off.

He played great defense againts Caron Butler and Paul Pierce in the playoffs. Even the NBA Commentators said that LeBron James defense is underrated. If the Cavs become a top 3 defensive teams in the regular season the NBA Coaches and Media will recognize LeBron as one of the best defender in the NBA.

lebron has offense. defense... uh not so much.. jump shot is ok. free throwshooting is bad.. all he can do is drive and dunk in ur face. bt that alone makes him good enough to be second or third best in the league.. once bron gets a jumper, learns d and can shoot fre throws then we should talk about him in sentences with the name kobe bryant in it. till then.. its all hype.

n lebron DOES have an ok team suporting him. iduno why people make so many lame excuses n bash them.

big ben was defensive player of the year back to back just a few years ago. he's still above average atleast
mo williams is really good judging from last year
big Z is under rated imo.. very very good

verajeo, palovic, gibson, west are all good

wally is a specialist. they got all they need. all they need is a superstar to HELP lebron. proving that he needs one to win a title. just like EVERYONE. including kobe, mj, shaq, hakeem, magic, duncan

the difference is.. a guy like kobe, shaq, jordan, dream all need one superstar to become a dominate team.
guys like KG need 2 other superstars =P

Hahaha First I thought that was sarcasm but then you included Hornets too which is actually a good team.

So really? you think he'll bring back his A-game agianst Bobcats? well he better cuz otherwise like other people said here he's 5 times worse as no improvement = getting worse (when everyone else is improving around you).

He had a bad debut last year againts the Dallas Mavericks, but he ended the year by winning his first NBA Scoring Title at age 23.

Bobcats and the Hornets are not even in the same league as the Boston Celtics. The same Celtics team that destroyed the Lakers in the NBA Finals. ( 37 points led in Game 6)

I hope Mike Brown will let LeBron play 40 minutes to maximize his potential as the no.1 scorer in the League.

Actually this Boston team wasn't really close to what they had in the playoffs last year. They are missing huge role players in Posey and PJ Brown. Leadership from Cassell is missing too.

And NO this year will be much better as they improved their roster by adding Posey and he's great on D and great help on offense too. Lets see how he fairs against them.

But of course he'll get better over the season. Can't get this bad all of a sudden.

i think people are getting way out of hand from that LBJ comment.
he was just trying to get himself, his team, fans pumped up for the season. basically saying that to tell people he's ready to go, ready to win, he worked to improve his game, etc.

let's be serious. 5 times the better player would mean he'll average 150 points, 35 rebounds, and 35 assists a game. and the cavs would probably win 250 games out of a possible 82. dunk from half court, shoot threes from under his own basket, and shoot better than 75% from the line!

stop taking things so literally people.

Well, his defense was pretty awful last night...Lebron is not one of the best defenders in the NBA. At all. His defense is just plain porous.

BTW--To all the people that said he was going to be a great FT shooter and 3 pt. shooter this year and he was going to be more clutch than Bryant...Ummm so far that isn't looking good at all. 0 for 4 from three. 4 for 8 FT, right? 2 for 6 in the 4th quarter for free-throws. Only an idiot will judge a player based on his performance in the first game of the season. Our star player is not 30 years old if he's over 30 i am a little bit less optimistic, that he's going to improve as a player because most guys end their explosiveness in their 30's

By the way LeBron will never throw his teammates under the bus, and we fans don't blame Mo Williams although he committed several Turnovers in the 4th quarter because the team that defeated the Cavs was the reigning NBA Champion.

Nope. I don't hate him. Anybody who has done as little as him and has as little all-around game as him should never be compared to MJ. I hate the hype around him. He simply stated facts so I agreed.

Lebron shoots 35% from midrange. 30% from three. He is a bad shooter. Lebron shoots 70% from the FT line. He is a bad free-throw shooter. Lebron continuously misses easy buckets and free-throws in the clutch (as proven by Game 7 and last night).

45 points. Correct. 3 points in the last 6 minutes and missed free-throws as well. That is not clutch.

Carried his team to the Final? They played a Arenas-less and Caron-less Wiz and a terrible Nets team. If I recall, he shot awfully in the ECF and had one good game. That is not carrying. He had some terrible games in that series.

You know what is carrying? 30 PPG/6 RPG/6 APG while shooting 50% and breaking an MJ record as well as playing competition as strong as the Nuggets, Jazz, and Spurs.

Lebron was #1 last year.

The flaw to your premise is, many of the Laker games this past season, the Lakers were up by more than 5 in the last 5 minutes. In a lot of the cases, Kobe was sitting on the bench and letting the bench closeout the game.

I guess you can't say the same thing about LeBron.

I was looking at the 82games.com analysis, and I found one interesting stat:

LeBron attemps 12 three's during crunch time (out of 36 FG attempts), and shoots 30%
Kobe attemps 4 (out of 33 FG attempts), and shoots about 38%

Talk about basketball IQ and shot selection.

LeBron averaged 0.26 points per minute, while Kobe averaged 0.375 points per minute.

LeBron played 215 minutes of "clutch" time, while Kobe only played 136. Yet Kobe is still 2nd and averages only 5 less points.

But he is still #1 in the league. Also he shot a better fg% than his team average. Kobe has shot under his team average since 2003.

Kobe's Shooting vs his team's shooting %.

2003 - Kobe Fg% = 45.1% FG
Team FG % = 45.1% FG

2004 - Kobe Fg% = 43.8% FG
Team FG % = 45.4% FG

2005 - Kobe Fg% = 43.3% FG
Team FG % = 43.7% FG

2006 - Kobe Fg% = 45.0% FG
Team FG % = 45.3% FG

2007 - Kobe Fg% = 46.3% FG
Team FG % = 46.6% FG

2008 - Kobe Fg% = 45.9% FG
Team FG % = 47.6% FG

He has shot below his team's average for the past 5 years and was at his team's average 6 years ago.

Also Lebron is more productive statistically as well which is why he led in PER as well.

It's actually simple according to the schematic.

Lebron produces 56.0 pts and Kobe produced 51.8 pts. No one produced more points than Lebron.

And if you read it you would see it mentioned "clutch time"

Also Lebron shot 47.5% during that time to Kobe's 44.8%

I'll reiterate myself (again).

LeBron played WAY more "clutch" minutes than Kobe, yet he only scored 5 more points.

Like you said, LeBron shot a higher FG percentage, yet he only scored 5 more points than Kobe.

215-136= 79 minutes. That's more than 1 and a half 48-minute game, almost a game and three quarters, yet LeBron only scored 5 more points.
