:speechless:Patriots placed RB Laurence Maroney on injured reserve, ending his season. -rotoworld/Boston Globe

Very curious....This "shoulder injury" wasn't bad enough to prevent Maroney from re-entering the game after he first injured it, or for him to be "out" for the last two weeks, suddenly ends his season.

I think hope of Maroney and the O-line getting it together and being productive was our last hope for the year.... realistically Cassel/Morris probably represents the least talented QB/HB combo in the league.

he will be cut after this season

I'm sorry. There is no basis on which to predict that. The Pats 3 remaining backs are all over 30, Maroney is what 24? If it is a career ender he'll be cut.

If not, he won't because his salary cap number is pretty damn high. He has 2/3 of a $3.2M cap due in '09 and '10, and also what's left of a $475k per year salary in '08, '09 and '10. That's about a $3M - $3.5M bath. No sir. He stays through the end 0f 2010 if he isn't permanently disabled - or BB decides for some reason he is a big detriment to the team.

Look at Wilson, he stunk the last 3 years he was here, but he was never cut. I expect Maroney to do better then that, and earn some or all of his money.

Everyone did. That's why they drafted him instead of Addai. Were they wrong? Who knows, their careers arent over yet. So far, sure.

I agree that he will be traded or cut most definitely before the season starts next year and, to the guy who said Cassel and Morris are the worst QB/HB combo in football well that was probably true when it was Cassel and Mauroney but, over the past 2 seasons I'm convinced that Morris is a better RB then Mauroney is right now. Mauroney might rejuvenate his career and turn out to be a great RB but, his first 3 seasons in the league beg me to differ. I don't think we are a worse team with Morris as are starting RB over Mauroney at all. I think we probably a little better.

its past time to find someone else. I like Morris, and what I have seen of Jordan. Maroney is taking up a roster spot. He's talented, but if he is going to be hurt the whole time, that's not being much of a running back committee member.

By the way, when he proves me wrong next season, I will be nothing but happy about it. But I ahve to call it like I see it right now.

Morris is a nice cheap retread, and if you are old enough to remember retreads you know that they can blow at any time.

I wrote this is in the trade Maroney thread about two weeks ago:

Let's see, he'll be 24 in Feb, the same age as a lot of 2nd year backs. His life time yards per carry is 4.3 (pretty damn good), let's review the RB's with career 4.3 averages :

Tony Dorsett
Marshall Faulk
Joeseph Addai
Earl Campbell
Corey Dillon
Lawrence McCutheon
Chuck Muncie
Larry Csonka

Here are guys that are at 4.2 or lower:

Emmitt Smith
Edgerrin James
Marcus Allen
Herschel Walker
Thurman Thomas
Roger Craig

Since Dec 16th last year he has played in 8 games (including 3 playoff games) and averaged 4.9 YPG.

12/16/07 26 for 104
12/23/07 14 for 156
12/29/07 19 for 46
01/12/08 22 for 122
01/20/08 25 for 122
02/03/08 14 for 36
09/07/08 10 for 51
09/14/08 8 for 16
10/05/08 10 for 26

That's some nice run. If he can maintain that, then he is in Gale Sayers, Barry Sanders, Jim Brown territory. His first game this year was 10 for 5.1 (5.1 average). now he's had two crummy games since, and all of a sudden you want to cut him? trade him? get real.

There is no chance they eat the money, there is little chance that they trade him. Maybe just maybe like Morris last year his injury is real, amazingly judgmental crew around here.....

hes a pansy and is always hurt, great at times when in the line up but with running back by committee this doesnt hurt too badly...

You really need to question is committment. He is always getting hurt. This one sounds like it's psychological more than physical. I think he's not coming back.

Fact: We need a running game to step up and support Cassel consistently this season.

Fact: Maroney is hurt again and won't be providing said support. As is Morris apparently. And for now, Jordan.

It's not knocking Maroney, his work ethic, or attitude. Look at my other posts and you will see I think he is a talented runner when healthy. But how often is he healthy? And how often is he too banged up to provide any support at all? I am not saying his injuries are his fault. He worked hard last year to get better. throughout the season. Its just frustrating to watch him on the sidelines so often when we need him healthy and on the field.

I have been thinking about this fantasy team thing for a couple of seasons, but never done it. Where do you actually do this?

Yahoo has fantasy football, as does ESPN. I'm not sure if you can still sign up at this point, but you can try. It's addicting.

Cool. I will wait till next season, as I need to leave for Afghanistan again, and the season will be about over by the time I get back. But I will definitely check it out.

I know it was against a weak Bronco's run defense, but Morris looked amazing. I called that he'd have a 100+ yard game in the game thread, and he did. He's a good running back. Not great yet, but he is a good running back with a lot of potential.
